Found - but what to do

Just surfing on eBay. Bumped into a listing with the seat off my GS that was stolen... It's unmistakable. Some of you on here may remember my post of how I reshaped it and recovered it.

I think I'll advise the insurance company on Monday. I have no proof the seller knows it was stolen but I suspect it's a little uncanny and looking at the bike pieces and garage scene in the background I'd be inclined to put 2 & 2 together...

In all honesty I doubt much will be done, but you'll at least have acted promptly and it will have been stuck onto 'the system'

If he decides to call plod, giving the info out on here may not be the best move....it would only take one idiot to ask a silly question of the vendor and *poof* all the kit disappears.

Slippery....call Plod and give them all the info you have...tell them you have photographs of the parts that are conclusive and keep your fingers crossed......ask for the name of the person you report it to as well

Mate of mine had a rmz400 stolen from his industrial unit in Northumberland , 3 months later he sees his bike on e bay in Nottingham.

He rang the police up here who got in contact with Notts and they got the sellers details off e bay (all forces have a liason officer ), resulted in the local lads attending the address ,recovering the bike which was positively identified and returned .

First thing is get in touch with the O.I.C for the original crime giving them all of the details plus how you can identify the item

I'm with Fanum's thinking on this e.g. Not to reveal the listing on here, just yet anyway.

Wasn't sure about calling plod. Only because I doubt there's anything they can really do? But then again, getting into the system means something might get done or it can be added to info they already have.

I now wish it was datatagged, with the chips injected into it... Would be pretty conclusive evidence. But then it's just the bloody seat! I suspect the bike was broken into parts and half of it might have already been flogged on eBay!

DO NOT give the listing on a public forum, do you not know who is reading it and how do you think that scrotes sometimes get information about bikes

As for contacting the police ,stupid not to, the whole bike or a large proportion of it and other peoples stolen bikes could be sitting in this persons garage, plus the police can also get full details of all completed transactions

There's a lot they can do.
Your allegation gives them all they need to search the place.
If its genuine mistake and the guy is an innocent party then fair enough.
However, if they're stripping nicked bikes the place will be loaded with hookey stuff.

Because you hand modified the seat, that puts you in a strong position to be able to positively identify it.
Tell the police that when you speak to them.

Ok. So we agree not to give detail details on here. That was my thinking from the start.

I like the idea that the police could follow it up and pay them a visit... That could prove a lot. And you're right, not only I can identify the seat. The outfit that covered it can too...

I'll let you know what they say (but limited info only - I agree that this scroats also read these forums).

I will be beyond amazed if the rozzers do anything.

Work in the mail order game so used to fraudsters / chargebacks / items being ebayed.

Options :- Pass all the detail to the police

- "action fraud" website - heavy on the fraud - not sure why the work action is in there
- report to local cop shop - only time we have had success is when a new up and coming PC is trying to impress where he did pick up the details and managed to take down a large fraud/identity theft ring. Just goes to show - a bit of focus on day to day crime including card fraud actually would probably mop up quite of lot of larger issues we face in Britain today.

The summary from ebay experience - is report to cops - get a crime number and then report to ebay who will shutdown the seller. Whether the person will get stopped or just have to restart a week later - unsure.

Would be worth giving the insurance company the police crime number as they tend to want to push the rozzers to try and get either goods back or person stopped who is doing the naughtyness.

Tell all you can, police, insurance company,ebay,and keep pestering them, because these arseholes can not be aloud to get away with it. how many times on this forum have we been told that a member has had his bike stolen.and how many times have they come back with a smiley face to say they have got it back unharmed

I've reported it. There was some interest actually, more than I expected. But let's wait and see what materialises, if anything. I have to say, seeing this bloody thing had caused me a degree of paranoia!

Reviving this thread as I've found MORE of my stolen GS on ebay. I was even flippin watching one of the pieces

I happen to be in the habit of photographing my way through jobs I do on the bike. Found some parts on ebay and I've just checked my own photos. Perfect match (corrosion marks, pitting - unequivocal).

Different breakers this time, but local the other. I'll be on the phone to the insurance company shortly...but really, I wonder what they'll do. It was a huge effort on my part to report it last time

It has been making me think to mark (punch/engrave) the bike no. onto all the major parts. It would screw up the eBay route for these w****rs or at least make it more hassle.
