I was looking for a small tank bag - small enough not to flop back and forth - big enough for a camera and maybe a fleece and with a map pocket.

Bought one - RKA in California makes some wedge-shaped tankbags that fit nicely on various GS tanks. Wife has one of their flat ones on her S.
www.rka-luggage.com

So far so good - it has tacky rubberized material on bottom which sticks to tank and three point mounting. (they also have 4 point mounting for other shapes of bike)

$100USD for bag plus another fifteen dollars for a rain cover.

Here are some pics

Will commence to test for the next few years:-)

This one is called the 11 liter Shiloh Road...they also have larger ones. Just thought I would throw that out there...I hadn't seen mention of their products before and we have had good luck with the other bag of theirs that we have.
No affiliation with them, etc etc etc

BTW, the large Zarges case is easy-on and off - my BMW dealer refers to my bike as the pickup truck:-)

What's wrong with the fence, then? Just because the bougainvilla's gone bald thanks to the few nights of freeze we've had, that's no reason to attack a man's fence. I can get that sort of comment from the wife, who wants to know when I'm going to fix the water pipe to the back yard.

Those aren't bullet marks...those are damage caused by Virgin Airlines baggage handling last time I passed through Heathrow... the top box is more often used to ship my equipt around when I have to earn a living.

Must have been Virgin - British Air would have just lost it:-)

Thanks - 600cc air-cooled boxer twin - half the engine of the GS and carries much more... but it just won't fit between the cars in traffic:-)

That tankbag looks the perfect size for what I'm after, it looks like the GPS and handlebar brace will clear it ok, any european dealers I wonder?

Easily mounts back far enough to miss handlebar brace (not that I have one on this bike) as long as your bars aren't rolled all the way back and down...

Check out their website - they will ship overseas - I suppose if you can't find an EU distributer, you could purchase directly from them on the website.

Yup, Acadiane is the badge...apparently they came up with that as a contraction of AK and Dyanne - clever.

Runs great but I think I will end up having to do the kingpins on the front swingarms... it is stable on the road, but I can fell the play if I jack it up and pull on the wheels.

Luckily there is an outfit here on the east coast that import replacement parts.

Tin Snails, Ducks or Flying Dustbins

Yup 22:D
Nobody else could /would work on them, I used to buy from Auctions all round midlands.
usually with so called duff engines, Usually a set of points [Which according to most garages, 2cv's didn't have]:D As soon as I'd get one running nice and spoodled up, someone :spl1f: :spl1f: would offer me stupid money:D and it would be Next please :)
I started the "Two Pot Shop" in Walsall specializing in them, when I moved to Devon Simon took over the name [1984]

Best hide or change your email before I start badgering you for mechanical advice:-) I just got this one recently - runs fine, brakes good, etc. Needs a bit of mechanical care and a bit of paint, but I am a neophyte.

So far, all I've done is replace a CV joint boot and get the windscreen wipers working again by cleaning up the motor contacts...hardly technically challenging.

Valve clearance check and oil change next.

This one is a 79...I haven't looked yet, but I would assume a hall sensor rather than points by this time...would I be kidding myself?

Thanks for that...I suppose I had better look at them before I start doing significant distance in this thing.

One more thing on the list....

I have recently picked up an even cheaper tank bag, about this size, I will get some details up tomorrow for you.

I have been trying to track down a tankbag of similar proportions to this, but until your post, did not realise that the Shiloh Road was so close to what I want. One question though. Does the map pocket have enough room to hold a laminated A4 sheet ? Overall dimensions 305x220mm.
Cheers
twofat.

nope, map pocket is only 156x215mm, but since it is held on by velcro all over the top of the bag and all over the bottom of the map pocket, I think you could just order a larger map pocket from the same mfr (one designed for another bag) and stick it on...there is enough surface area to hold a map pocket on at a few hundred mies per hour :-)
