Just bought a 2008 GSA and was poking about seeing what's what. Should there be a cover over the FPC? When I look 'down there' I can see the FPC, but I thought I read on some posts people saying there is a cover to remove, or do they just mean the tank panel with the BMW logo on it?

Many thanks

No cover on it mate. They must be referring to the plastic panels that need removing to get at the FPC

There was a cover on my 2005 1200GS but this seemed to disappear from later models - the cover was a twist on plastic thing with slots in it; it let out any heat and let in water :)

My 2005 had a cover, 2007 has no cover and collects water when it rains. It is a seriously shite design, but they abandoned the cover because they thought that heat was causing all the failures.

i left the cover off once (06 model) and in rain it does get wet

checked the fpc when this happened and wasnt warm at all

would suggest a vented cover, unless you live and ride in the desert, if not cover with acf50 and clean it out often but you may then wear out the side panel fasteners!!

Thanks all

Thanks All. That's what I needed to know. No cover does of course mean it's easier to get in there and mop up the water after rain or washing etc. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something I was supposed to have.

I used to take the cover off and mop up the water after a wet ride or when I washed the bike - never had a FP failure.
