Hell Das my paint was rubbing off after only 150 miles two rides... Let alone 6 months not got that far thus far.

My dirt bikes do it all the time i just pull up @ a car parts shop & find a good match only time i could not get a good match was on my wr400 yam with a metalic blue frame so had a paint shop mix some up & used an air brush

Granted, but typical of BMW, if it affected their cars, they would have taken note of the furore and sorted it!!

I have coverd my entire bike in duck tape to stop the wearing. 
If I sell it. I can take the tape all off and the bike will look brand new.

Hi Guys in th elight of Das good experience in regards to the replacement of the rear subframe, I have contacted BMWUK. Believe it or not I have had one response asking for bike details etc etc.., I will post the final outcome when I get it.
I for one think it is a very poor show if frame paint is rubbing off in less than 600 miles, my basic GS12 lasted 19 K before it started which is a bit more like it.

Well guys finally got BMW Bracknell to give the ok to respray my frame, so it went into Ocean Plymouths own body shop and all I can say is WOW that was the way the frame should have looked in the first place.
The frame was removed from the bike and completely re-done with two pack paint, the finish is fantastic, it is now black not that off black colour of the original, man am I so glad that BMW did not go down the frame replacement route
Give the bike a wash over tomorrow and take some pictures the diffrences is amazing Now a very happy bunny and the workmanship at the bodyshop can not be faulted.

Just out of interest, but did you take pictures before it was repainted, so you can do a "before & after" picture?

Here goes the before and after shots unfortunately they do not show the depth of finish on the re-sprayed frame.
The offending Wear:-
The nice newly painted frame:-
Now got to get some 3M clear sticky plastic to cover the area of wear although with the new paint job it should not wear as fast again.
Been looking at the rims next I think they need a new coat of two pack paint to get a nice deep black. think may have to get in touch with the local sprayers.

Do you have a copy of the correspondance you had with Bracknell as Vines have already told me that "it is the way I ride" and therefore not covered by warrenty nor is the rubbing on the fuel tank for that matter

Cheapest would be garden hose cut in length and holded with duck tape. Probably stell wire even cheaper.. and all painted in black

My apologies for seeming synical, but this sounds like a heck of a lot of fuss for some wear, which quite honestly cannot be seen in the image. What are you going to do when you get stone chips on the rest of the bike??

Typical Vines. Much the same way as the fork brace corrosion on my bike "wasn't a common problem" when warranty was discussed (and rejected).
Though to be fair, I think I did once see one without fork brace corrosion.

Things like stone chips etc I do not have a problem with, what I do have a problem with is a patch of wear that started when riding the bike home from the showroom. IMHO it is immaterial how big the patch is or was (although the picture does not show it well) it was the principle of the problem.
I had a basic bike previously and the same wear started at around 15K which I feel is reasonable not before the first 600 mile service that’s just taking the piss. I work hard to earn my living and having spent 11k on a new bike I would expect it to last a few months.
Also whilst replying it appears my bike was not the only one, due to the “Green” lobby most motor manufacturers have to use a water based paint which have very little resistance to wear and BMW’s cars are suffering the same problem.
IMHO the only way to get things improved is to complain else no one knows there is problem the more complaints the more likely a long term solution will be found.

if you chafe a frame with a boot or similar, the paint is going to come off anyway in the end, whatever sort of paint bmw put on it.
my bike has got 2000 miles on the clock and not a mark on the frame. i assume this is because i don't rub my boot on it. in fact it's hard to see how it's even possible with anything approaching a normal riding position
do you have baggy leggings or something that blow around and act like a flap wheel by any chance?
