My 1200gsa has paint ware on the left hand side where the boot has been
touching. What should i do? :nenau
Jim (Das Panzy) has been told by BMW that they will replace the subframe under warranty, as they believe there could be a problem with the paint.. :nenau

Alternatively, touch it up and use some frame guards?

Your call?

DD.. :thumb

Don`t worry about it, it won`t rust cos your boot keeps rubbing it & when you come to sell paint a bit of silver paint over it & nobody will notice :thumb

Tarka will be along in a minute..................... :D :D

Either put a sticker over there, or get a piece of that clear Fablon-type stuff and stick that over the area.

All my bikes have had boot-rubbing marks. I call it "character". Others may call it "penguin feet".

I tried that and they would have nothing off it? Which dealership did Das Panzy get it past?

As some have said, why didn't you put protective tape over the frame rails when it was brand new and before you rode it.............

Surely you must have anticipated boot wear to frame paint around footpeg area

I am with you there spetic but the worrying thing is that Touratech already have a part to protect that area.

A common part to be produced for off road bikes :nenau

I think Stepic  , you've been lucky in the past, but thats not to say there isn't a fault on your particular frame, perhaps you could lay off the "T cut" and just give it a wax now and again :D

Paint

Further to Dirty Dogs email - problem here is that the paint may be affected in other areas i.e. were you wont be able to easily see it and touch it up, and this will corrode if not touched up quickly, and thats if you notice it. I asked Clarks BMW for the touch up option but was told this would treat the bit that was visible but what about the other affected areas that cant be so easily seen. If its rubbing off so easily in one area its a faulty paint batch on that frame.

I'm going to put a letter to BMW along the lines of utterly unsatisfied that a bike that is only 6 months old has to have a new subframe. And some sort of compensation or a new bike is in order. Probably won't get a reply but hey if we all wrote to them with these issues maybe they'd have sit up and take notice.

Overall poor, very poor.

And lets not even mention the heated grips that don't heat, second pair abour to be fitted, again under warranty.
