Helicopter tape is a thick, clear self-adhesive film that's used on the leading edge of rotor blades to protect them. If you consider the damage that such a composite material can sustain travelling at the speed of a rotor, it should tell you just how tough the stuff is.

I use it to protect parts of the bike that are prone to getting scuffed and pebble-dashed.

Using your eBay skills, do a search for helicopter tape.
