France for the weekend

My breakfasts may be boringly brown but I do like proper French pastries!

Heading back north today and MRA says it will take 4 hours which should be enough to stop and pick up a couple of bottles of wine on my way. Every Cave in the immediate area is closed on a Monday so it’ll probably be a supermarket stop near the ferry.

Toasty day in northern France 31C at times which made for a sweaty day!

Roads were good though with a mix of straight through the fields and a few twisties at times.

Lunch was a win. Driving through 3 villages that were as good as deserted I found a restaurant that was open and had a few people in. €15 menu de jour was an absolute win!

There was also a salad bar to start, a cheese course and coffee but I was short on time so stuck to a main and desert.

Cracking on to the ferry I made good progress to Caen where the traffic built up. Fortunately i could follow a couple of french HDs filtering through so didn’t get delayed.

Last vital stop of any france trip is the supermarket. I managed to get 6 bottles in the roll bag with a couple of t-shirts for padding. The girl at the cash desk was a bit confused but there we go.

The queue to check in and passport control was pretty killer backing in the sun but then they waved the last 2 of us on bikes to the front and got us on board.

Apparently I’m a creature of habit as I’ve sat in the same spot 4 times now!

So there we go, another long weekend in France. Now to relax for a few hours on the crossing and I should get home by midnight.

Just seen this report. What a great little trip and good piccies too. Enjoyed going through that so thank you for posting. :)

Arrived at the B&B hotel 3 minutes from the port. Very basic but clean with good shower and bed.
I know the palace, we stayed there on our return journey from Sid’s a couple of years ago.
Decent enough for a night or two.
