On rare window in the weather over the weekend I came across this beautiful thing.😍
It may have inspired me to blow the dust off my Road King (which has been asleep since last October) if it stops pissing down.😵

A lovely thing (y)

Many years ago, I had an Evo' and my mate had a shovelhead, we went all over on them. I always expected my mate's bike to explode as it rattled and knocked plus it burnt oil, but on and on it went. EVENTUALLY he decided to rebuild the motor. On pulling it apart, bearings and bits of metal just fell out of it, God knows how it ever ran, never mind reliably.

I was impressed and unimpressed all at the same time.....

Talking of reliability...
I'm on my third HD, two RK's and a Dyna. Against popular belief they have been the most reliable bike's I've owned.
When I first bought one I was pleasantly surprised as the miles went by re its dependability. Confidence grew and
grew and I was impressed, but I couldn't own one as my only bike. Dont ride it much these days but can't live without
it If that makes sense, and seeing the Shovelhead gave me a nudge to blow the cobwebs off mine. I hope I haven't
tempted fate and it starts when I roll it out.:D

I'm not keen on the seat & exhaust but lob on some touring hard bags and what's not to like ?

A couple of q’s for the cognoscenti, I’m considering an older Harley as my next rebuild.

What’s supply of old and tired bikes like? And where best to look?

What’s parts availability like?

Are they a mahoosive money pit? Or do we get some retained value for restored bikes?

Cheers aye!

These guys are always bringing in container loads of old Harleys of all kinds and conditions. Worth being on their mailing list.

Nice one, thanks Vern.

What should I get though? Not the faintest idea about Harleys.

Only criteria are must be big to fit me, and an affordable base bike.

That’s a simple question with a HUGE answer……..

Will you be touring on it ?

Long weekends solo are a possibility. But gentle B and N roads, not peage.

Main thing is I’m 6’3” with long legs and dodgy hips so needs to be comfy.

What do you run Doc?

Road King Special. Spent a few quid getting it comfy plus new suspension. I would say it's spot on now. My most used bike.
Arsey had one and he's a tall bloke.

That looks like a proper Harley. Probably a bit beyond my means at present.

Maybe have a look at a 1200. My mate has one and loves it and regularly rides down to Spain on it.
