Does any one know of a current discount promotion for the Euro tunnel, Dover to Calais ferry or just the cheapest way to get to France with the bike bar swimming ? looking to go out friday 3rd sept and back sunday 12 sept.

try directferries.com

some good deals there and it is worth phoning them

been with them 3 times this year

Howie;)

I always check the ferry price against EuroTunnel now.

And cos I'm bored :D I've done it for you. Assuming you're on your own & going out at 8am on Fri and returning 6pm (or near as) on the Sun;

Eurotunnel

Long stay promotion, book at least 1 day in advance, change times at no fee, but no refund; £128.50

Long stay holiday, book at least 14 days in advance, chang etimes for £30, refund for £60 cost; £148.00

Long stay flexible, book at least 3 days in advance, change times at no fee, refund for no fee; £154.00

Ferrys

Hoverspeed:- Special offer ticket, no refunds or cancellation allowed; £133

SeaFrance:- Special Fare is amendable, however no refunds are allowed; £110

Even if it's £20 more I'd go Eurotunnel - no strapping the bike down, no ages loading the ferry (1 hour? compared to about 10 mins for Eurotunnel), no stairs to climb sweating with all your gear; Ride on, park the bike and stand by it chatting. 30 mins later ride off :thumb

At both ends you're literally straight on to the motorway if need be, no port to negotiate.

Eurotunnel trains also leave roughly every 15 mins, so if you book a flexible ticket you won't be waiting for ages should you miss it or turn up early.

Also, pillions effectively go for free with Eurotunnel - I assume ferries will charge.

Don't think I'd take a ferry again

I'd second howie's recommendation of directferries. They can get you space on the Norfolk line which was less than £100 last time I looked.

Cheers

Dick

Norfolk line are doing a bike and rider price of £49 return from Dover to Dunkerque at anytime of day (or night.) http://www.norfolkline.com/

You need to telephone and quote 'Family and Friends offer'. It's valid up until December 04 and has a £5.00 amendment fee if you need to change the sailing times.

Sailing time is 2 hours which is a little longer than Dover-Calais.

0745hr out from dover

Mikeo - How did you get a quote for a motorcycle ?? - Their web site only offers two alternatives, standard car or large car ?

Have used them a couple of times recently, never seen a bike.....

Sorry I went by car speedferries only take cars according to their home page
Might be worth giving them a call too see if they accept bikes
there A new company who say they are fighting the Pirates ie P&O Brittany etc
The speedcat I went on had room to fit bikes on
If four bikes equal one car space and they charge £38 return for a car then four bikes at £38 each makes sense and cheap for the biker.
How about GSeruk approaching Spedferries to see if they will cut a deal

They say that they will take bikes next year, but that is if they are still running in 2005!!

They only have one ferry, and it was already down an engine last month :D

Still, at £88 quid for a return (2 Adults, 1 infant and a Large car - well, small car plus roof rack) I am off again on Thursday :)
