Free service?

The thing is Kiwi, if no one purchased these bikes on finance there would probably only be about 4 members in this forum.
Or do you think you are impressing us all by making out you are richer than us??
Derrrr............

I think you have to establish the rules before you pay for the bike.

If you negotiate the first service for free or somewhere in between then fine. The days of GS demand outstripping supply are over. This is the one point of the deal where you are in control. After the sale is agreed you belong to them. You can switch dealer freely but you must service the bike at some or other BMW dealer to maintain the warranty. Without that warranty you're hanging your arse out in the breeze with this machine!

I'd suggest that demand for the new F800Gs and F650GS are out stripping supply, so there really isn't any wiggle room there.

And you don't have to go to a BMW dealer to maintain your warranty - as long as you use genuine BMW parts and can prove the work was adequate (and I realise there are pitfalls in that).

BMW TEKKY seems like a well balanced chap, with a chip on each shoulder. :D
I think he's Bi-Polar. One minute he's test riding the 800GS saying the 1200GS is far superior. Next minute its a pile of shite thats going to explode into a million bits at any second.

Yes Monkey the 1200 is far superior.
I am not knocking the ride of these machines. When thy are running perfect the GS 1200 is the best bike I have ever ridden.
Its all the faults and crappy build quality that I will not accept.
We pay Rolls Royce money and are getting Fiat Panda quality.
What I cannot understand is.....BMW can see all of these problems that we are having with faulty seals etc. but never act and redesign and change it to stop it happening further.
The 2008 GS still has the same EWS antenna, seals, clonky gearbox and final drive system that will continue to throw faults as before as you clock up the miles....Why???:blast

Errrr are you blind?.....everybody with decent mileage covered has had these problems.
Every single internet search you conduct ends up with owners all round the world listing these same old faults time and time again.
I went into SBW Hertforshire the other day....in the carpark was a mature guy about to get on his tourer. I got chatting and lo and behold he tells me he has had seals go in his final drive TWICE and the dealer ended up changing the whole final drive unit.
If this was out of warranty he would be about £600-800 lighter in his wallet!!
They had 2 bikes in at that very time in the workshop having their gearbox and crankshaft seal done.
And still the salesman denied this was a reliability issue.
Unbeleivable!!!:blast

Sounds as though you have no first hand experience of this yourself. You're hanging round workshops and are surprised that people are having work done:blast Your reading internet forums looking for problems and finding them:blast

Why not turn up to one of the UKGSer meets and actually talk to people *using* their bikes??

+why would you pay BMW £800 when out of warranty? There are many good independent engineers that will do the work for a fraction of the price.

Sounds as though you need a quick return to jap bikes that you rate so highly................

Look on their forums.......no owners whinging of continuos same old recurring faults there.
Chain and sprocket, wet clutch, immobilser that works, traditional wiring loom....
BMW...It bloody works!!!!!

Your profile says you have a 1200GS, if that is true you are clearly unhappy with it. Do yourself, and us, a favour, sell it ASAP, then feck off and be miserable somewhere else!

Thanks for advice Shenzi, but I will make up my own mind as to what I will do.
Nice of you to worry about me though...Thankyou.
Is the word Feck in the English dictionary? I dont seem to find it anywhere.?

I think BMW TEKKY should change his Logon ID to "Thrush".

Any others, or should this be a new thread :D

Had a KTM 950 Adventure when they first came out. Great bike as long as your arse was as tough as the seat , you could contend with the massive buffetting - do read the forums its still a problem - the poor on road brakes , the poor parts supply , dying fuel pumps - still not fixed etc etc.

I loved mine though ! and still got a 450 for proper off roading.

They're just machines , they go wrong , they get fixed.

As for dealers , well at such stage even the best will act and behave like a crooked arrogant bunch of f*ckwits

Stu

Thrush??? Am I missing something?
:D I think he is implying you're an "Irritating C*nt"!!!! :D:D

There are some problems with the KTMs as with any other bike e.g. water pump, snatchy throttle, etc. I'd expect future bills with the KTMs to be less than with BMW if you find a good dealer. I still think I'd be tempted to wait for the new RC8 engine to migrate across. Apparently there's two 1000cc adventure bikes due out, one focused for offroad, one for onroad.

And on the topic of the thread, you'll spit your coffee out when you find out the price of the KTM first service :)
