Help.... Don't want to lose mapsource

I'm trying to download the topo maps posted by mouse and as recomended by CBFer:thumb

I've downloaded them, created the file/registry: C:garmin/contours and unzipped em there.
from what i can gather i now need to edit the registry key which i have unzipped to the above directory to point at the above directory:nenau
Not done this before, do I open it with registry editor and do it that way or should i have edited it before unzipping it to the above directory.
When i go to open it with registry editor it asks me if i really want to open it and thats where I've bottled out so far:D
Do i need to alter the TDB file as well or is it just the reg one that need fettling:nenau

poo

Impatience got the better of me and after left clickin on the reg file, i chose to open with registry editor. This was clearly a mistake as it just said it's been added to the registry and now mapsource is fecked. Bastid:spitfire Can i alter it or do i have to re-install and buy TOPO:nenau

I think you're being a bit 'country-ist' here.

Nowhere does it mention Any other country apart from UK.

This is the internet you know.

Looks like i'm going to have calm down from the initial post heading excitement and prepeare myself for non topographical GPS-ing :(

:dabone
There is a commercial product for Australia called OZtopo

It uses the professional version of Tracks4Australia as its roads and rivers layer and 20M Contours as a transparent contour overlay

You can use the contour layer on top of other products such as City Navigator

I Looked at his post on page 1 (couldn't find the ref on page 2:nenau ) and thats how i know the registry needs altering but what i need to know is how do you do it?
And do you modify it after it's been unzipped to the folder?
My gamin folder is located at C:\Garmin so what i did was open this folder and create a new folder titled Contours within it. Is this correct?
So I now have a folder who's address is C:\Garmin\Contours.
The zipped (v2essentials & V2N54) files which are stored on my desk top were then clicked on and when prompted by the unzip wizard were unzipped into the above folder.
I then double clicked on the V2 reg file and was asked if i wanted to run this file. I chose yes and thasts as far as i can get.I gather from gasmans post I should have created a folder named Contours V2 but thats not my main concern as i'm fecked if I know how to alter the reg file.
Looking at Whattons thread he has a folder within garmin called products which I have but my mine don't contain any of the files his does, is this relevant:nenau

Right, had a look and the registry key was pointing to c:/programefiles/garmin and my garmin folder is at c:/garmin. Edited the three files to point there and it's all working :thumb :thumb

I've got contours :bounce1

Whatton ! Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou.
I had the same problem, Garmin was in C: not C:Program files

I have contours. :steptoe

Thanks for this Mouse. Now to try it out.

How to load maps onto Zumo

Have managed to load all maps and got them working fine on Mapsource, but have tried loading them onto my Zumo 220 and can't find them!

Seemed to get all the right messages when uploading from mapsource to Zumo, but when I go into Zumo only shows the original City Navigator map installed.

Am I missing some stages or what??:nenau

Any help appreciated!

Wow thanks this is brilliant, my Legend now has all the UK roads plus topo :)

Anybody not wanting to mess with registry and Mapsource I have been using http://www.img2gps.co.cc/ to download img files to my map capable Garmin GPSs.

Don't tell anyone but it also makes bog standard Mapsource maps into routable versions !

Anybody managed to get these running on a 660?

Having changed from a 550 I found myself really missing the contours so did the download, used IMG2GPS to try and transfer to the 660 but it doesn't seem to have worked - can't see the files anywhere. Nor can I open them in Mapsource. :blast

They've downloaded okay though - I can see them all in C:\ProgramFiles\Garmin\Contours and I've double-clicked the registry file which went okay.
