Topographical maps for Egypt??

Hi -

Please, does anyone know where I can obtain (preferably via free download like the Moroccan ones...) topographical basemaps for Egypt?

Specifically it's the White Desert I'm after.

I went into Stanfords to buy a paper map (remember those??? ) but apparently the only ones at a greater scale than 1:800 000 are military maps and highly sensitive.

Anyone got any ideas?

The Open Street Map project has produced free topo maps for many countries.
See: http://www.openstreetmap.org click on cycle map sheet.
They have also been packaged for Garmin devices + Windows and Mac PCs, these are available at: http://mapas.alternativaslibres.es/downloads.php together with detailed instructions on how to load and use them.

Openmtbmap.org is one of the maps based on Openstreetmap, used by hikers, mountain bikers and cyclists, but with much more focus on off road trails. See http://www.velomap.org

Streetmap haven't sorted off-the-beaten-track Egypt yet but velomap is looking more promising.
