Have a 1994 GS1100. Passed MOT but issued with an MOT advisory re front ball joint split. Have purchased complete ball joint from Motorworks. Is it just a matter of undoing top nut and letting forks drop to access and replace?

Welcome

Well worth the £12 to join.

Search away there are some guys who have replaced the joint recently and there will be posts on it There is also the Font of all Wisdom
Go easy as I believe heat is involved to free loctite It can be a barsteward to remove
An expert will be along soon :thumb2

Thanks man. I suspected it might not be as simple as it looks. Haynes doesn't specifically detail the procedure. I will await further replies to this post and see what advice is offered. I agree £12 subs is excellent for the sites benefits. Who is the 'Font of all wisdom'? Being a newbie to the site, I'm still finding my way around it. Bob.

I did the rubber boot on my 1150GS last year which was simple, about £9 off eBay link if you can send back the complete ball joint. I think it's a bit of a job to replace the whole thing and if not necessary, then replacing the boot would seem better?

Yes to replace it is just a matter of undoing the bolt, I think you have to put something under centre stand to raise front up enough to get the threaded bit free if I recall....

Beemer Boneyard in States doing the rubber boot on its own . Could be handy.
