Front Brake adjustment

I have just changed my front brake lever for an adjustable short lever but need to adjust brake presure.

When fitting the lever, it was pumped a couple of times and the brake pressure is now really hard and pretty immediate on use (no slack) - the brake does not seem to be dragging but it would do with being backed off a bit.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to do this.

I have done a search but cannot find anything that covers this

It's an adjustable lever?

Its not the position of the lever thats the issue, its the actual pressure in the system and lack of "play" in the line - hard to explain I suppose but the brake action is very sudden and I wanted to ease it off a bit - this has nothing to do with the actual angle of the lever

Yes it is. Changing the lever can't and won't increase the pressure in the system it's the free play that's causing you problems.

As I've no idea what make of lever you've fitted I'm not really sure if this will be of any help but it sounds like the span adjuster needs to be slackened off. On the standard lever this is on the inside close to the pivot.

They are pazzo levers and I will have a look at them in the morning but thanks for the comments

They only adjust the span, ie, if you got short fingers you can reach the lever if you adjust it in. For less pressure.... dont Squeeze it so hard.

By which I guess you mean that the feeling has become very 'wooden', with none of the normal 'squeeze' to increase the braking pressure?

Does normal feeling return if you go back to the original lever?

Assuming you did nothing more than change the lever, it can only be that the leverage / span of the new lever is significantly different than the original fit. You are simply squeezing it harder (more pressure) earlier (or later) in the lever's travel..... which changes the feeling.

Play around with the span and / or swap back to see wha' 'appens.

I've got Pazzo levers on my Speed Triple and there is a click lever for adjusting the bite point on top of the lever

If you've fitted a shortie lever then the amount of pressure you need to physically apply will be greater not less

It's not possible to increase the pressure the brake system runs at by changing the lever

Thanks for the feedback guys

When I checked today I decided to put the original back on and see what happened then all became apparent. the problem came from the way the plunger was inserted into its rubber shoe - I think I had caught some of the rubber which increased brake pressure even when the brake was not in use. Once I refitted the plunger into the rubber housing correctly all was fine. I didnt think it was span adjust, but thanks for the comments
