just doing a bit of a refurb on my 1150, can anybody tell me if i can upbolt the cylinder were the bleed nipple goes on the right caliper? or is it best to put a bleed nipple in to the top? I've been told various things including it should of been removed when the bike was pdi'd
thanks dj

Are you saying that you have a bleed nipple installed into the banjo bolt that connects the front brake hose to the calipers?

If so, Id leave it in place and use it as a tool to assist the recharging of a dry system should you ever strip it down for servicing: It's a lot easier to recharge the hoses and calipers when the master cyclinder is free of air.
I've spent loads of £'s on various bikes for those parts in the past.

It's where the bleed nipple should be, found on adventure rider, heat it up with a blow lamp to melt the loctite and remove with pliers, with no heat it will shear.
Thanks for the advice, fitting stainless lines to the bike aswell as a major service

Can you post a picture because I still don't know the location to which you refer?

I'm just curious now so don't feel commited but having that bleed nipple in place could be advantageous at times, unless you've got a MityVac like I have now. :thumb

Do you mean the check valve that is used to fill the system at the factory?

It can be unscrewed and a normal bleed nipple fitted.:flag

Cheers Kenny,

I've learnt something today:

1) What the OP may be on about; and

2) He's got a free brake bleeding tool.

Gothbiker, if that's what you have then order some stainless steel bleed nipples for your calipers and put the parts you have removed to one side for future use.
You're not far from me so if you need a hand with your brakes then let me know with a PM and I'll show you how to assemble your system, charge it and how to describe the components invloved: I have a super tool to make the recharge easy.
I was somewhat confused with your references to cylinders but Kenny may have answered my question and it may be worth learning a bit about hydraulic systems to ask questions for the future. I hope I'm not teaching you to suck eggs but are you using PTFE tape?

Thanks for the advice, I managed to heat it up yesterday and un bolt it, I just wasn't too sure how hard it would be to remove. I have two stainless bleed nipples to fit, aswell as new lines.
Ditchwater if you fancy calling over for a brew feel free, if you can balance throttle bodies be even better lol

Okay,

I can help you with your brakes but i do not have vacuum guages for your throttle bodies: Try ADV Warehouse in Manchester, and in fact I'll be going there soon and I could show yoou the way.

I'm busy tomorrow but if you want to send me a PM to arrange a visit then I'll bring my Mityvac and we'll have your hydraulic systems bled in no time. :thumb
