Here and there.....
Collected my bike on Saturday after having the discs replaced under warranty as they were warped. 09 1200GS wth 8000 miles:(. Bike is fine now and all was well until half an hour ago. Riders of cardiff have just phoned me to say that BMW have accepted the claim for the discs but will not pay for the pads, and i have to cough up. They told me that the pads must be changed when fitting new discs. I have told them i won't pay as the pads wouldn't of needed changing had the discs been ok in the first place. What do you sensible and fair minded:rolleyes: lot think. Am I being an arse or is the lack of customer service an issue here. How many miles would you expect from front pads? Thoughts please.

Pads are a wear and tear item so won't be covered under warranty. They should last a lot longer than 8k that's for sure but it's always best to put new pads on with new discs.

I had my discs replaced under warranty 3 or 4 years ago and the pads were replaced FOC too. As you say, if the discs hadn't had to be replaced then neither would the pads.

I'm still on my first set of pads @ 33k miles, but may change them in time for the winter if only to save the pistons from corrosion.

Agree with you on the warranty issue though, that's a bit shameful really.

I'm still on the original front pads at 26000 miles and to be honest apart from the dirt they look like new

At this wear rate I would expect my first set of pads to easily last 40000 miles so if I were you I would offer to make a contribution towards the pads of say 20% of their warranty chargable cost. Warranty work is charged back to the manufacturer at cost so why should they make profit out of you while carrying out a warranty repair for a problem you did not create?

PS Don't forget that by making a contribution (however small) towards a repair then you will get the full manufacturers warranty (parts & labour) on that repair so if the fault occurs again outside the vehicle warranty period you can make a claim on the parts warranty side of it

Don't take this sh1t write to the Chief Executive and complain loudly and make a fuss in writing and keep copies :thumb2
Please bear in mind that for everyone who complains there will be many more who just bend over and take it or moan but take no action even though now all it takes is a minute or two to email ??
I am building a case about the fecking final drives as we speak
