Anyone got any soft luggage that fits near the front headlight / screen on a GS 100 PD ?

Something like you see on Harley's , roll bag type thing for a sleeping bag or something light weight ?

So on the roo bars? I just use it to keep a cable lock but they do seem like a wasted opportunity luggage wise if you have a lot riding on your back end

Yeah on the roo bars. I'm sure I've seen something in the past, I thought I saw a set up where there was like a shelf thingy above the headlight ?

Maybe I was dreaming... Wouldn't be the first time .

Our own Mr Hooton makes these - http://www.cymarcbikeparts.co.uk/r1200gsa-lc-light-duty-front-utility-rack-in-black-173-p.asp . Install one and get a bag on top. there you have your soft bag holder.

That's the very idea, but that won't fit on a 1988 PD ( not enough plastic to attach it to ) :green gri) , all that is required is something that bolts to the bar above the headlight to form a shelf that can maybe be folded closed/open that say a sleeping bag size bit of soft kit could rest on.:nenau

There was a guy on ebay selling versions for XT600, looked like this. You've already got the roo bars so I reckon its an easy mod to get a local welder to do. I don't know if there is scope for putting something lower down though, perhaps a tool box for heavier things.

Was hopeful of something more bolt on than welded.

You could always just use straps to tie tent poles or whatever to the horizontal section beneath headlight and two other little straps to the sections that slope down from end of that horizontal section to pull them in snug to the bars and stop them moving about.

Yeah I might try that, I'm taking a tarp and table and chairs to the TT so I'll try and strap them to the front, keep a bit of weight over the front was also my thought.

Pretty sure there's a loop thingy on the front for strapping stuff on the grill ? :nenau

This is what I made up for my GS - it bolts into the high mudguard bolt holes in the bottom yoke but I'm not sure if it would work on a PD.

Think I've Sussed it Chas, the natural curvature of the bar above the headlight grill allows me to strap my tarp and poles to it with a thin Bungee strap with small none scratch plastic hooks.
Takes a couple of kgs off the back end. :D

Doesn't obscure the headlight either.

This is what you want!
