FRONT END WOBBLE

Hi

I have got a r1150gs adv, over last couple of days i have noticed the front end wobble.

You can feel it wobble a low speed and vibrating at speed.

If you let go of the bars at low speed the bars wobble from side to side rapidly. :eek: :eek:

you can see the bars moving about 2" from side to side.

Has anyone got any ideas?

I saw a guy do a tank slapper after letting go of the bars ! It strikes me as a strange thing to do........ surely your arms act as steering dampers and stop slappers starting ?

you should be able to take your hands off the bars without a weave/wobble/tank slapper starting.

if you can't do it, you have a basic problem with the bike.

OP's original post does sound very like reported problems with duff tourances.
 
Running Tourances? If you are, penny to that'll be it. Mine did it for a certain time (not from new) - rode through it (balancing did nowt) and now it's fine again.
 
I was getting some front end vibration leading to whitefinger,combined with a bit of headshake,with a new Tourance on my Kalahari 1100 last year.
The wheel rim condition and balance were fine.

Curiously,all the symptoms vanished after treating the tyre with Ultraseal ready for the Stella Alpina trip.

I reckon the tyre had some sort of internal ridge or 'sink hole' ,maybe caused by bubbling in the mould at the factory,and the Ultraseal filled it and evened the tyre weight distribution.

I love scientific fact based on hard evidence .

A typically unproductive and inflammatory comment from Steptoe.

I was adding my suspicions as to the cause of the vibration I got from the tyre.

A vibration which totally disappeared after filling the tyre with Ultraseal fluid.

Meaning that the fluid must have rectified some malady within the tyre.

There was no statement of 'scientific fact' or 'hard evidence'.

Hence the term 'I reckon.....' in my post.

So feck off and do one.

If i don't have any idea whats causing a problem, i usually keep quiet :rolleyes: Unless the question deserves ridicule ;)

Tarka...you did say that the wheel was balanced??? :nenau

Marks Adventure.......have you stuck it on the centre stand andspun the front to see if there's anything obvious???

Been bumping up any curbs recently???
 
Steptoe says that he posts nothing if he has no idea...apart from any ridicule that`s deserved.

Well,in my case,I DID have an idea.....based on the fact that there was noticable headshake and front end vibration that caused whitefinger within half an hour of riding ......and it TOTALLY VANISHED after treating the tyres with Ultraseal.

Therefore,it was very reasonable to assume an internal fault with the tyre related to its uniformity of balance and I was expressing a possible cause of this fault.

Fanum....yes...the wheel was perfectly balanced and the bead seal was uniformly spaced around the periphery of the tyre.
There was no damage or 'run out' in the rim,either.
 
I'd check the rear tyre / wheel. IME lots of front wheel problems are caused by problems with the back.
