After an off on boxing day I`ve got the bike back up and running , took it out today to fuel it up after fitting tank after getting it sprayed, the front end just did nt feel right, the local garage checked it over for me and re aligned the front forks, considering they missed 2 cuts in the front tyre wall , makes me wonder how good a job they did aligning forks is there any way i can check the forks/handlebar alignment or am I better to take it to a reputable motorcycle dealer for them to check it?

The joy of shaft drive is the axles are fixed in relationship to each other. Pull a straight edge or fishing line between front & rear wheels to see if there is any misalignment to tracking.....

After taking the forks out,its easy to misalign them on re-assembly.
When on the centre stand, can you spin the front wheel round easily?.
If there is binding.,try loosening the 4 lower "yoke" bolts and the front spindle (not too loose). You can then move the bars in relation to the front wheel to eliminate binding.Just like a pushbike really.Tighten the spindle, check again and then tighten the lower yoke bolts.

See Your Previous Thread??

Hi Dave,
I gave a suggested method on your previous post on this:-

www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?p=855866#post855866

Are you sure you've done this correctly:nenau - when the screws mentioned in my reply are slackened off everything twists about VERY easily:eek: - with things slack you've got to move the bars and/or wheel very carefully until aligned - try "sighting" down the front edge of the top yoke to the points where the stanchions enter the top side of the bottom yoke:confused: - does that make sense??? - then when the "sighting" looks spot-on CAREFULLY nip up the screws WITHOUT the alignment moving - keep re-checking as you go:thumb2

Is that anymore help?? - if all still doesn't look/feel right then I think the best thing would be to take it to your nearest dealer to check??

Cheers.....................Grizzly:beer:

Don't fully tighten any bolts until you compress the front forks, by bouncing them up and down.

if you do tighten without compressing , you can trap stresses in the front end/forks.

funnily enough when i took the bike off the centre stand I had a hell of a job to wheel it back felt as if the front brake was binding

Thank you for your input people, after following your instructions :bow
I`ve re aligned front forks, also discovered that one of the brake capilers were full of crap which had the effect of keeping brake on , on that side.
The moral of the story why pay a garage to do a job half when theres much more satisfaction and peace of mind when you do it yourself
