Front fork leak

Hello. I have a BMW r850r which has started to leak oil from the front fork. I read an excellent articul about fixing it.they mentioned it's easy.at no time did they mention that the handle bars might have to come off.. But on my bike the socket will not fit on to it,the handlebars are in the way.does anyone know if this is ok, and if it's straight forward to remove the bars. Thanks for reading this, and I would be delighted to hear an answer

Use some heat or a 6 point socket not a 12 point or you may stuff up the top nuts
