I have just bought a mates mint 2004 reg 1200, collecting it in the morning, too excited to sleep :). Googling mentions a recall for GS fork tubes from 2013 where BMW will fit a bush. I have just bought a 2004 model so just checking it does not effect mine. Were they made differently then? How do I find out about recalls? Anything to check, keep an eye on? It has done 30K, regularly serviced by a BMW independent specialist and not offroaded.

The test ride was only for 20mins in the rain, all good, boxer engine going to take some getting used to after in-line fours (XJR, FJR and Thunderace) but this bike will be a keeper. The only negative was that the seat tilted me forward. My mate is a shorty, I wonder if it is because it is lowered at the front and not the back... seem to have read others mentioning this a couple of years back when I last looked at GS,s but never got them out of my head.

Thanks

The recall was on the water cooled bikes only afaik.
I ride with my seat high at the front and low at the back.
Try the other combinations before you give up with it and buy a secondhand sergeant seat. (others are available, but my sergeant is all day comfy)

Thanks for that. Picked up the bike this morning....LURVE IT.... SO EASY TO RIDE... AND COMFORTABLE... it came with all the history including a couple of recalls so all is good. The engine is going to take getting used to but it is fine, it will be a keeper for sure.

Take it to hilltop for a remap..it’ll transform it....

You’ve started off in the right manner of new bmw owners, panicking over nothing :D

Lol! This time because I bought it off my fastidious mate I am not looking out for strange noises, or worrying about vibrations. The thing has just been given a £565 major service by a known BMW independent, the tyres are as new andit came with a load of goodies... no warranty will we be as good as my mates if something went wrong. I have so many questions so will start a new thread when I get time... I am still cleaning the thing having got it dirty from mint condition... it is going to get used however in the salt and dirt, we ride through the winter :beerjug:
