Front Seat Stuck on! R1200GS 2016

Yes but his seat is stuck on, he cant get it off. He would need to get hold of a wire coat hanger or similar and get it slid in under the rear of the seat and hook onto the hook bar and pull it back while lifting the seat. Someone else on here has done it already.

Sorry Dell I thought the seats were off and he couldn't get the 'v' shaped cam back on top. The thread has been a bit disjointed time wise. Which seats are on or off then ?

Front seat is stuck, think the back one is off. So it should be an easy enough job the get at the catch under the seat.

Reading it all again it seems to me like the front seat is on and can be be removed ok because he's got the 'V' shaped tab in the correct place on top of the hooking arms. He DOESN'T want to fit the rear seat because he can see the key wont turn beyond the 12 o'clock position clockwise to remove the seat if he fits it.

If that's the case it looks like part number 12 isn't sliding in an arc to release the mushroom on the rear seat. In which case a previous poster in this thread removed the complete seat assembly and it should be obvious from beneath what is jamming the key at the 12 o'clock position whilst trying to turn the key clockwise to release the mushroom on the rear seat. Maybe ?

Exactly this ;) Thanks for everyone in taking the time to chip in. Hoping to get busy on the rear seat problem next weekend, if it's not throwing it down and blowing a hooley (got to work on bike outside).

Sorted it this afternoon! I ended up removing the pillion grab rails, then the plastic silver rear frame surround which the seat locking mechanism is fixed in to. Took that indoors, turned it upsisde down and could see the seat locking mechanism. It has a cover (item 9 in the part diagram I posted) so I took that off and as there are some spirngs around the spindle that turns when you ture the key, and the front seat arms, it all sprung out. With some help I managed to get it all back in place and replace the cover and hey presto, it worked. I couldn't see any reaon why it wouldn't work before I took the cover off, except that it wouldn't. Reseating it all and putting the cover back on seemed to do the trick. I've put it all back on the bike and it's all working so fingers crossed it stays that way.

Many, many thanks to all who posted here, especially for the photographs. Now to get out and ride! :-D
