Just picked up my 2014 lc with 8k, I've noticed a knocking noise from the front suspension while going over speed bumps/rough ground and the like, sounds like the front shock is loose but I've had a good look and gave any component I could get my hands on a good pull/push/shake and everything seems to be tight with no movement I can see, over smooth roads it's perfect and the knocking is more audible with the ESA in soft, is it a case of they all do that, my old single cam didn't make any noises but it wasn't ESA, this is my first bmw with ESA, I have searched but couldn't find anything
Thanks Pete

Interesting. Mine hasn't done it since I bought it 18 months ago then started doing exactly this last week. Like you I can't find anything obviously loose.

PP if you bought it from a dealer I would go straight back with it and have them look at it. get them to check other bits and pieces and not just the ESA.

I went out for a quick spin and the knocking noise is constant with the ESA in soft, in normal you only hear it over rough ground and speed bumps, with the ESA set to hard there is no knocking noise, anyway it's booked in with the dealer Monday morning

When I first test rode the bike I now have I noticed the same thing. I reported it to the dealer and they said they'd look into it before I picked it up. When I collected it I asked what they had found and they said they just changed the whole front fork! Afaik the ESA only changes settings on the rear shock but I may be completely wrong?

Both front discs replaced due to excessive play in the bobbins and front shock replaced as it was knackered, knocking noise now gone and all done under warranty

Slightly alarming or at least a major concern that a bike with such low mileage should be having these problems, glad BMW sorted the problems at no cost to you, still surprised that these items should fail
at a relatively low mileage.
cheers
tony

Yes I'm baffled as well, all I can think is that the problem was the shock in the first place and the excess play in the bobbins contributed to the noise, anyway all back to normal now
Cheers guys
