Front wheel removal

Is there a special tool I need? To remove the spindle,And does anyone know where I can get it from?

Have you got a socket set? If so, use the head of a spark plug socket (in backwards) with a long shaft in from the other side.

I couldn't find my tool earlier this year after moving house, halfords had one for about a tenner in their motorcycle department,
Don't forget the Torx bits for the calipers and spindle pinch bolt,

The calliper bolts are amongst the few that I use a torque wrench on. Can't remember the figure, but without the wrench I would probably have over tightened. Whilst you have the callipers off it's worth giving them a thorough clean and checking the pistons are free, you should be able to push them back with your thumbs.

The spindle is 22mm and the caliper torque is 30nm. My spindle tool is a 22mm bolt with a couple of nuts spot welded to it so I can get a spanner on it

This is one place where I DO use the torque wrench.

Don't leave your torque wrenches stored in a 'set' position as this can affect the spring, giving a false reading. Always unwind back to zero. Thats my one piece of useful advice for 2015 done!

Torque wrench is not necessary. Just nip it all up. Brake calipers, pinch bolts, front axle, rear wheel nuts.

it may not be necessary for people like you or i who has experience of when tight is not too tight but a lot of folks dont so a torque wrench is a very good idea imo.

Should be like we used to do with truck wheel nuts....2 cracks and the job was a good un

Being something of a tool junkie, I've got three torque wrenches to cover a decent range, my favourite being a sexy little 1/4" drive one. I'm quite happy hand tightening stuff and I think I've got a decent 'feel' but for some critical fasteners and things like cylinder head assemblies, a torque wrench is valuable.

Never gone as far as having one calibrated though (although I do check them every so of them with a measured lever and weight).

Or get your employer to do it whilst their tools are being done.

....or do it yourself. Put the square drive in a vies and hang a weight on the grip, adjust setting and retest until it clicks.

Caliper bolts = Caliper mounting bolts: Front are 30nm / Rear are 24nm
Pinch bolts = Front axle pinch bolt = 19nm
& spindle = 50nm
