out the other day the screen on my 550 froze no touch screen would not answer any buttons so i removed it from the mount took the battery off waited 1 min replaced the battery switched it on and it worked normally,
is this a sign of a fault or a case of 'they all do that sir'??

mine does that:augie
hold down the off button and the minus button at the same time switches it off. (hard to do at 60mph on the duel carriage way) switch it back on, and all works as normal. 4 times it has done this. I put it down to vibration on the mount.

Mine just did this for the first time in 3 years while in Austria and obviously I didn't have an allen key to remove the battery:eek: Looked for a local garage and borrowed one from a mechanic there. Luckily it worked OK after that so next time I will take one:thumb

Mine did exactly the same four weeks ago - spent ages looking for the little allen key to take the battery out. Mine was on a Touratwat mount too.

Mine did the same thing in the middle of nowhere on the Isle of Skye, luckily met up with Tuned On and he did the business (remove battery and replace) That was about 2 years ago no problem since, I now always carry the wee allen key needed !!

Yep, mine's been doing it as well. Happened when I was on the IOW at the weekend and found a Pound Store that had a set of about 8 Allen keys, including the littl'un for a quid (got loads at home of course!). Sorted. I'll just carry one in future. Unless there's a permanent fix anybody knows of?

Yep mine done the same thing battery out and back in fixed it,
But at the same time the fuel gage stopped working,? I putt the zumo freeze down to the fault in the circuit when the fuel gage failed

I think that all Garmin tw@t navs, probably others, lock up from time to time - it's cos they have a microprocessor inside, running dodgy software.

Unfortunately it has become the norm in the software world to release their products before they are 'fit for purpose' - then expect the customer to find and report the issues. If you are lucky they fix the easy bugs and then get you to download the 'latest version' of dodgy code :D

These 'code monkeys' :D don't live in the real world like what us hardware Engineers have to - how many releases of hardware am I allowed? Just the one - has to be right first time otherwise it costs the company a fortune - we can't just lob 'latest releases' out every few weeks.

Hope that explains why these things go wrong :D

Battery removal

Feeling quite pleased with myself :)

I didn't want to have to carry a little allen key around in my wallet and as I use the Zumo on different bikes and in a car I wanted to find an easy way to store it.

Took the top cover off the Zumo and with side cutters cut down the allen key to a suitable size and stuck it in there with a bit of blue tack. Sorted!
