I'm not sure about that, but you should be able to get from A to B.
I can get from A to B on a about a half tank, but to get to C takes less than a 1/4 ???
Is that starting from A or B?
All these calculations are immaterial as you have not factored in the biggest variable. You get different MPG with the large compared to normal tank.

When I had an 1150GS I got 49-55 mpg (dependent on temperature and twitchy wrist) over a period of more than 11000 miles.

Well it's intersting you make that point as I have found that running knobblies on my 1150 gives about 7MPG better fuel economy than when running Tourances. I put this down to the reduced contact patch with the road and therefore reduced friction that the knobblies provide.
Of course, your milage may vary...

Would you mind being a bit more specific please Colban, not exactly sure how to go about this, are aftermarket parts available? didnt check the air filter either, will do so this weekend

A y-piece replaces the catalytic convertor. They're all aftermarket - Remus, Motad and various other companies make them. Pretty easy to fit but of course you need to swap the lambda sensor over from the cat to the y-piece.
Just about any company that sells BM bits will stock y-pieces (Motorworks, Motobins, Nippy Normans etc) and there are loads on eBay too, new and used. Oh, and usually there are some for sale on here - check the For Sale section.
Benefits are lower weight (not that it makes much difference on something the weight of a GS....) and better gas flow leading to slightly improved performance and fuel consumption. Exhaust volume will increase slightly.

Surely the MPG is directly linked to oil viscosity?
The more viscous the oil the more resistence offered to the pistons, therefore the more miles per gallon used, as the engine works harder to push the pistons around.....???
This is what happens when you use out of date oil.

Urlingford to Cork is about 80 miles, ill be doing a run this weekend and report back with more accurate figures and try and forget its not the Harley im on, promise ill slow down a bit
