I keep reading posts where members say they get around 250 miles from a tank of petrol.

I use Shell Optimax, fill up on the sidestand (not the centre stand), each fill up costs around £15.50 and I consistently get only 190 miles before the yellow warning light comes on and I'm down to one bar or no bars on the gauge.

I have a Y-piece and standard can. I have noticed no difference in consumption since I binned the cat.

Is something wrong?

Mike,

Me too.

My 1150 is 8/9 months, 8000 miles old, standard everything and I typically see 170-180 miles of mixed riding per fill before no bars and the warning light comes on.

At least its stopped drinking oil!

That works out to somewhere round the 40 to the gallon mark - which sounds about right. My 1100 gives between 160 and 205 depending how I ride it.

I had an 1150 a few weeks ago that easily did 200 to the tankfull.

To be honest it seems about right. Why are you using Optimax? does it make much difference to the performance?

While in Morocco in May on my return route I got 256 miles out of the standard tank and still hadn't ran out... it's normally around the 200 mark when the light comes on though

I usually get between 45-50 mpg depending on how much I`m enjoying myself. I normally fill up when the light comes on (between 190-210 miles).
The last time I changed the fuel filter I rode the bike an extra 30 miles after the light came on to drain most of the fuel until my bottle went and I returned home thinking I was on fumes.
I took the tank off and found nearly threequarters of a gallon left.
I reckon therefore that I have a range of about 260-270 miles before it completely runs out.
Of course I wont be putting this to the test but if the tank holds 24 litres and I get, at least, 10 miles to the litre then I would probably feel confident doing 240 miles between fill ups if I had to.

I used to get 180-190 till the light came on . Changed to Brisk plug now get around 220 every time, with a best of 232.

I don't think I have changed my riding style, still getting about the same mileage from the tyres, but because the bike runs so much soother, I tend to run 1 gear higher a lot of the time.

I've run around 7k with the Brisks in now, and IMHO they are most definitely worth the extra cash. They have repaid me several time over in saved juice.

I've never let the light come on, but doing 'brim to brim' fill-ups, i've calculated my mpg to be 52-58. I fill up with the bike on the centre stand, and always get that last bit past the filler neck, so i would be looking at 200miles+. (Brisk plugs too!)

I've only had my (00 model) 1150 for a month. Done just over 3K on it (as i've just been up to the Isle of Lewis and back - from Devon) and generally get about 170 out of the tank before the fuel light comes on. I can then USUALLY get a further 40 miles out of it - but i did run out at the side of the A30 with only 192 on the trip meter recently:o . This works out to be anywhere between 40 - 44 mpg. I fill up on the centre stand and fill it right to the neck, to try and squeeze a bit more mileage out of the range. On the trip to and from Lewis (with a constant throttle opening which would have equated to 90+MPH - had I been on a public road [which of course i wasn't]) i managed to get 45 - 49 mpg, two-up and fully loaded.

I'll have to do a search on the benefits of the brisk plugs to see what 'mystical' advantage they are supposed to impart that would account for the improvements hinted at here - or does it have to be the twin sparks only ?.

So far i've used nearly 1 litre of oil in 3K miles. Is this high, low, average?

Mike see other thread.

Mike I suggest that you see the other thread on the same topic.
Titled: Fuel consumtion prooblem.

NB: the spelling of problem is not my mistake thats how it appears on the thread.

Nope, I run a Y2K model (1 of the first of the 1150's I believe) with 49K on the clock.

I wouldn't have belived the difference either - till I tried them:beerjug:

fuel consumption

I get between 35 and 45 per gallon with my '99 GS and I run high octane. Anyone know if they sell those plugs in the States?
Thanks.

Dont forget get that a US gallon is not the same as a UK gallon:confused:

Was there ever a consensus of opinion on the benefits of the Brisk plugs?

Fuel Consumption

I am interested to know about Brisk plugs, what is special about them
Barrie.

My adv has only done 400 or so miles before the bad weather, but i managed the first 320 or so on a tankfull with a bar left on the guage

Okay, so I've read up all about Brisk plugs - and now I'd like to buy some - how?

Is there a UK reseller?

The brisk website www.brisk.cz seems to point at sending a mail to a bloke in .cz land.

Is this correct?

Cheers,
Finbarr.

MPG and distance figures will of course depend on where the reading is being taken i.e. O/E odometer or a GPS

My odometer says I get an avg 48mpg but the little VDO bicycle computer tells me 45mpg

Depends entirely on how I ride. A 95 mph motorway thrash sees the yellow light come on at around 150-160. On a 60 mph "A" road run I can see more than 200 before the light comes on.

On average I get around 45 mpg. I also use Brisk plugs and noticed a 10% improvement in consumption. Well worth the money IMO.

Mine's a 2000 GS1150

Cheers

Dick
