How does the gauge work?

There is one BIG bar that is about 3/4 of the length of the thing? Does it mean 3/4 has been used? If so ... I have seen one only done 95 miles and it is there already :nenau

So 200 miles is the norm for a tank full??

Peytrol consumption

There is nothing like mpg to start the discussions rolling. Comparisons are VERY difficult and apart from your riding style, the roads and the weather the actual state of the engine is another variable. (If you have driven, or been drivren in a car with a continuous readout of petrol consumption the variations in any journey can be extraordinary!)

Today on the run back from Holyhead to London I managed to hit 202 miles before the reserve came on with 52miles in it. Best so far.

last fill was 13£ what ever that is

Quick bit of arithmetic says you are doing around 45 mpg. Probably normal whilst running in - certainly not poor.

Mine usually does 10 to 11 miles per litre which is 45 to 50. Much better than my old VFR which regularly did 30 / 35 mpg!

P.S. And its consumPtion

just reading your replies guys why the feck then fdoes the dealer say keep below 4000rpm for the first 1500 miles then ??

Never mind what the dealer says... what does the HANDBOOK say?

Mine has 4500 miles and was run-in according to the handbook (4000 etc. etc.)

I normally acheive 120 before the 'first big bar' dissapears. I normally fill up just after this, but when I do go to the limit I manage 200+.

Generally mixed touring, town and a bit of scratching.

I've pulled the rubber bung as well.

Mates 1150 seemed to be giving terrible mpg, truth was he had a mistake in his MPG calcs.

Please dont shoot me for this but first off, UK gallon is 4.546 ltrs, US gallon is 4 ltrs, hence how some US bikes give better mpg than UK bikes

So fill up tank to full, set trip, ride and have fun.

At next fill up record miles on trip and litres to fill up tank to full again.

Divide miles travelled by litres used and multiply this by 4.546

2005 1200GS
we all ride completely differnetly.....
if you're riding it like you stole it you're gonna get poor M.P.G. (160 to a tank)

if you're doing constant 70 on the motorway you're gonna get good M.P.G (215+ to a tank)

i've done 33,000 miles last twelve months, rubber tube removed, filler neck drilled....i can get over 20 litres in the tank.....(!) M.P.G. varies MASSIVELY depending on how i'm riding.......

i carry 35 / 40kg in luggage (tools for work) 80% of the time i'm riding. . . . this does not seem to affect the M.P.G. too much - it's more when i'm constantly accelerating hard / riding at higher speeds that the M.P.G decreases (like any bike?)
