Fuel filler blistering

Well...My front engine plate was replaced under warranty, and now two months out of warranty and the fuel filler cap is starting to blister around one of the screws and also on the lift up flap

I can live with it at the moment but I suppose I should price a new part :

.......what's the saying.........something about nothing worthwhile to say then keep schtum! (yeah I know that's wrong but :shrug: )


GrinningGSer - personally I'd be in to see the deeler and ask that they contact BMW warranty dept even though it's out of cover...that can only be down to crap quality painting or poor prep of the surface before imho. Go and complain.......nothing to loose

blistering fuel rings batman!

my fuel ring has blistered too spotted one on a sunday and a week later the've nearly gone all the way round. also had front engine plate changed and 3 months on its rotting again. side of the engine is blistering too. front end of the shaft. also had valve covers replaced. bits have been done under warranty but the finish is not what i expected from BMW. bloody ace bike though!!!!!

50 squid for an entire cap assembly, not available in individual components... I'll wait a bit though

can anyone help me? Left the bike in the sun for a couple of hours [for the first time] and as soon as I got on I noticed a large gap around the fuel filler, predominately on the left. Obviously this was heat enduced but it hasn't gone back after being in the garage. Any ideas guys?

I should have said the gap is between the metal filler and the plastic tank cover...

Strange ......loosen the six retaining bolts, square the filler ring up and retighten bolts (don't over tighten the bolts, I've heard of people cracking the filler ring).

Tell you what, email BMW and point them at your comments. They'll certainly be minded to improve their quality when they read your wise words - er, not!

Perhaps you deserve a bike rotting around you but, after paying upwards of 10 grand, many will rightly think they don't
