Fuel filter help

Hi All,

Im in the middle of a service which is long overdue, I have the bike in bits and have decided to change the fuel filter because the bike has been running a bit rough lately ( cutting out at junctions etc ).

Anyhow I have read a few threads re changing the filter and have also seen the ones re fitting the fuel filter externally. My problem is I can’t see in any of the threads if I need a new seal/O’ring for the assembly that holds all the gubbins in the fuel tank.

If I disassemble the fuel tank to change the filter do a need a new seal to reassemble.?

Allan, advisable to change the seal at the same time.. try motobins, they supplied me with a filter and o ring pretty quickly..Motorworks are good too

You rarely need a new seal for the fuel pump/sender unit.

I have decided to have a go at it, the worst that can happen is I take it apart and discover I need a new seal. A new seal only takes a day or so to come but going by the weather today that will not matter.

PS TIP, If any of you know anyone who flies model airplanes or helicopters the little hand fuel pumps those guys use are the bizz for draining the tank after its off the bike.

If you find that the 'O' ring is apparently too big to refit easily, try warming it with a hairdryer to shrink it back to size. If that fails, you may have to leave it overnight to regain its size. I have a spare 'O' ring for just that reason.

Job done, thanks to all for the help and advice. Didn’t bother with trying to mod it so that the fuel filter was outside of the tank because it wasn’t that bad a job. Apart from fiddling with the breather hoses it was pretty easy and the bikes running a lot better now.
