OK, so I took the tank off, had it re-sprayed and re-mounted the internals.
Now the fuel light is always on even with a full tank and the indicator says empty.

So I took it all out, checked the wires were plugged in, cleaned the slider with a rubber to remove any carbon deposits and made sure nothing could foul the flotation arm when I put it all back in.

Same thing, warning light on and zero bars.

The tank is a Touratech so the internals are modified but it's all worked fine for over a year.

I put the original tank back on and that works fine, so the problem is somewhere in the TT tank.

I don't know what to check next.

Any suggestions?

Fuel gauge

have you put the plate in the correct position?, if so is the float catchingon the inside of the tank somwhere?, only take a bit of frictionto stop it moving.

I just did my fuel filter at the weekend. I marked my plate/tank up with a pen prior to disassembly and it seemed to want to go back on "one out" if you see what I mean. Maybe you've got the plate on skew-whiff. float

Even though I marked mine I had to take mine it all apart again when I turned the ignition on and found it was reading empty - careful reassembly and making sure the arm was moving freely sorted it - it was catching.

Good luck

Fuel gauge.

When you put in the pump/gauge assembly make sure the gauze strainer on the pump does not foul the float arm. (Just saw this in the Clymer manual, not my original thought!).
