Fuel gauge died

2 months outside of it's warranty period, my replacement fuel strip appears to have packed in.
It used to continually read full for a few weeks, which was fine as I just reset the trip and would fill up every 300 miles or so, but unfortunately it's now reading empty all the time. The constant yellow triangle and flashing fuel warning are driving me mad.
I don't fancy spending a fortune, for what's at best an iffy gauge, so wonder if there's a way to make it read full all the time, and stop all the flashing warning gubbins?

Ask BMW they will often sort things out of warranty.

Its worth checking the plug for the sender on top of the tank. I got some water in the connectot by accident when it was disconnected and had exactly the same symptoms as you're having. I took it off, dried it, refitted it and all was well.

I am on a phone right now so can't link to it but if you go back through my posts I linked to a solution. It's a fairly simple circuit that fools the gauge and gets rid off the warning. I will fish it out tomorrow if you haven't found it by then.

Mine was £200 to get replaced (dealer only job as calibration required). New item has a 2 year warranty. Maybe if you shop around, ask nicely and have it done when dealers are quiet you may get it done cheaper?

BMW is aware of the fuel sender problem. I had mine replaced twice out of warranty by my local (BMW goodwill), no charge. The do service the bike as well so maybe that helps, I don't know. It is worth giving them a call first.

Bloody marvellous - Found out this evening the fuel strip accuracy has drifted again, ran out of gas riding home with a fraction under half tank showing

That's the third time I've run out of gas in X years due to the strip getting worse, my fault, I should be using the trip milometer I know
