well, my fuel warning light is now permanently on and the gauge not working at all. Have been through two tankfuls in the past week so the sensor is obvioiusly fubarred. Booked in at the weekend.

I'm all for a solution to a problem
However you shouldn't have to find a solution to BMW's problem, that all they insist on doing is patching up there bodge job...
I use my Zumo set to 300 miles as a gauge as I just don't trust the fuel gauge... shouldn't have to though should I, not on a 12K bike

Gauge on my GSA has gone again, second time. Could of course be a cunning ploy by BMW to fit useless equipment to their bikes as it's the only means they have of getting them back into the showroom to look round an no doubt spend money.
Be a lonely life working there without the constant stream of warranty work and recalls...

Why use something equally prone to failure like a GPS for a trip? Just use the trip on the bike, it even has 2 of them.
On another note my gauge actually started working properly the other day all by itself. Clever little thing that it is. Still going to keep using my trip meter though as always. How simple it could all have been if they had only put a reserve switch in!

WTF do you need a fuel guage for anyway? Zero the trip when you fill up. Not sure how much is left? Open the tank and take a peek. Simplez. Take time off to get fuel guage fixed? Don't thing so.
Pay £14k+ for a bike? I expect the feckin' thing to work!

Also when its not working do you not know the warning lights flashing all the time. Just use the trip my A###

Problem with using the trip and relying on it is some people can not always fill the tank to its full capacity, making it more akward to work out your range.
I know you could do it by the amount of litres you put in but then it becomes a pain in the arse... and we shouldn't have to work out how many miles were roughly going to get from how much fuel were putting in the dam tank.
I know if I fill the tank to the brim I get approx 300 miles which I set on Zumo
But what when I cant fill the tank full, what if im over in Morocco and I can only get my hands on a few random bottles of fuel.. I would have to do the math and that would piss me off knowing that im doing some one elses shitty bodge job, I guess the solution is to start carrying a Jerry can of spare fuel around with me

Welcome to the challenges of adventure travel my friend. How on earth did the guys from Mondo Enduro manage? How did Walter from Sibersky Extreme manage on his G650X? How do those adventurous folks riding KTM 950's/990's manage? None of these bikes have fuel guages ! Oh my god - my fuel guage has broken - better bin the tip 'cos its dangerous. Time to get a grip me thinks....

Funny that some people think it's acceptable to have an unreliable fuel gauge on a premium product. Is this one of the (in)famous 'character traits' of the GS?
Not on a 1150GSA...................a proper Adv bike, not it's plastic replacement
BMW are trialling a revoulutionary new concept for discerning available fuel reserves
KTM have already employed this simple and effective method for 10 years

Being pragmatic....if there is no fix for the dodgy tank sender, can we at least get the fuel warning light disabled ?

I think you might be missing the point slightly
The BMW GSA I own is fitted with a fuel gauge that is supposed to tell me how much petrol I have in the tank
so i expect it to work, after all ive paid for it.If it wasn't fitted to the bike then at least I would know where I stand.
And you can say get a grip all you like, still doesn't change the fact my bike is fitted with a fuel gauge that is as much use as tits on fish
Hey I'm in the club now too. Driving back on the motorway tonight 330 miles after last filling the tank, fuel triangle comes on and flashes, whilst range says 40 miles. Got down to 27 miles left (7 miles later) and conked out just as I coasted into the local supermarket. Only had to push it 200 metres, but at least it's lighter than the old 1150
