Fuel gauge gone west

The fuel gauge on my 1150GS has suddenly gone tits-up. Fill it to the brim and it shows a couple of bars under. Ten minutes down the street and it shows full, or half empty.

What's that all about then, anyone got any ideas ?

Mine went odd when the side stand switch caused probs. In this weather, unless the bike has been really swamped, I doubt that this is the prob.

Have you or a garage had the tank off recently to change the fuel filter?.
There is a float assembly inside that may be sticking.
Or try cleaning the contacts on the 4 pin tank connector.
