FUEL GAUGE INACCURACY

My 09 GS has now been into the dealer twice for inaccurate & unrealistic fuel gauge.

Get on bike distance to M/T 136mls,
Straight onto motorway / dual carriage way & maintain 70mph for 67mls
Fuel low fuel light came on approx 11mls from home.
When i got home 22mls of fuel remaining,

Now i know that these figures are a guide... but this level of inaccuracy is outside even what i can except.

The gauge / sensors have now been re calibrated with two differing fuel loads as asked for by the dealer..... it hasn't made the slightest difference.

Before i get myself back to the dealer, is this a common problem? and does calibration normally cure it.

Mine always seems to be completely inaccurate.

Especially at lower fuel levels - just when you need it most....

Never had any probs on my 07 1200GS or on my 09 K1300GT but my new GSA, well.

Riding home the other day, fuel warning came on for reserve, telling me 88 miles, 2 minutes later all I get is three dashes.

Fill up with fuel 20 miles later and the guage still shows no bars and the range is still three dashes. Its now been like that for a week and about 100 miles.

Mine is the same as in unpredictable,

If I go over 70 mph it shows that there is half a tank even if it is full after 20 miles or so. When you stop and ride off again it shows a full tank.

I always find that if the warning light comes on a nice wheelie finds more juice in the tank and off it goes,only seems to work once though unfortunately!,the fuel guage is the worst on any vehicle i,ve ever owned,i did try running it dry and disconnecting the battery to re/cal it once,had little effect though

2010 GSA with 1500 mls on the clock and the fuel guage has now packed up completely. Started with an intermittent fault with the gauge showing "full" for 300mls and then empty, fill the bugger up and it still shows empty, then complete bollocks, full/empty/half full/whatever it wants to show. Its back to the dealers the week after next for repair under warranty.

Mine is a 07gsa and its about as much use as a fart in a space suit
It has been back in the dealers 4 times since december a new sender was fitted twice, somtimes it says range 220 and i have filled the tank with 31 litres
Other times i have topped the tank up rode 10 miles and the range will say 150 miles then 5 minutes later i will get the low fuel light on i

Same for me, 09 GSA. Its a complete lying bar steward!

You gotta love the bike itself though, so I guess its a minor niggle on an otherwise great piece of kit.

If you know how far you go on a tankfull... use the trip!!! Never take any notice of fuel guage!

If these things don't work then they shouldn't be fitted.

Lets not forget the gauge and range computer aren't thrown in for free, you are actually paying for these items.

My previous GS and my GT had the computer and they were fine, very useable.

I can understand the range calculation being a little bit troublesome, but mine doesn't even show any bars on the bar graph now.

Mine was woeful from new. Asked dealership to look at it during the first service but after calibration it was no different.

Asked again at the second service and I think they fitted a new sender and re-calibrated it.

It's fine now.

The first 2010's have the 2009 Elect. fuel sensor.
Subsequent ones will have a new Mech. float arrangement.

Mines just been in with faulty elect.

Is there any way of telling what one is fitted?

I have a 56 plate GSA and most of the time the readings are ok and consistant but there are times when the bars do not match the figures and can sometimes catch me out, however i always tend to get around the same out of a tank each time

Mines fine, but lets be honest you only have four gallons to worry about!! at about 50 to the gallon i suggest you fill up at around 160 miles! How clever am I!!


Should find a garage in 40 miles
