Fuel gauge tellin me lies

Approach this little beauty in a systematic way, after each check see if it has cured it before you go onto the next thing.

Check the connector block on the right hand side just under the tank. Pull it apart and check for frayed wires or corroded connections. Make sure all connections in this block are clean and good. This is likely to cure it.

If its not this then its either the sender unit on the fuel guage or the lcd display or the wiring in between. It could even be a kinked crossover pipe cos its an Adv. Has the tank been fiddled with at all recently?

Heres a parts picture for you .... The bottom pic is the back of the sender showing the potentiometer under the float arm.

consumption

Plus I seem to get 230 miles before the yellow light comes on...which given I have been doing some longish runs (2000miles covered in 3 weeks) is a bit disappointing. Any thoughts?

It may be running a bit rich, do you need to use the choke to start it when cold ?

I used to with mine, but now something has changed and I no longer need to and the fuel consumption appears to have gone down a bit !

Cheers,

Piggers

What bothers me is that my bike has the larger adventure tank, but when I fill up after the yellow light comes on I can not squeeze more than 23-24 litres in. Do I have 6-7 litres reserve?

Redotto, I put the 30l tank on mine and was a bit disappointed to only get 270 miles to a tank-but people here seem to think that's the best you can get as the pump wont pick up the other 3 l. My light also comes on at about 240 miles and it will take about 27 litres from when its nearly empty and I can hear the pump shrieking so I guess its the usual 3 or 4 l or so reserve. I think your experience and mine is normal!
