Does anyone out there have an accurate gauge on their GS12?
Mine's been back to the dealer four times about this, it still drops from full to half full in one go after about 100 miles have been covered.. This is despite replacing the fuel pump the last time it was at the dealers..
Maybe this is the way it's designed, all BMW say is that it just needs calibrating...

I'll take your word for it. It's not a problem so long as I remember to zero one of the trips when I fill up.
Just seems a backward step compared to the old 1100 and 1150, both of which I've owned.

It is more than "they all do it". The answer is "this is how it was designed". You don't get incremental metering until the bottom half of the tank. From half a tank to the end, it shows quite accurately how much is left. Figure a range somewhat greater than 200 miles, so when it goes down to half, you know you have about 100 miles of fuel remaining. The countdown feature at the very bottom of the tank is very accurate too, so you should be well covered.

The 1150 also did it (as BMW claimed) though not in such a pronounced way. Mine did not move off full for at least 70 miles.

My fuel gauge has given me fits! For the first 2000 miles it dropped to half, than refused to budge, even as I ran out of gas (twice). Then it decided that I was out of gas even when the tank was full, giving me a countdown for the first time, than saying I was empty. Now it's back to the first scenario. I'm finally getting it fixed tomorrow, if the BMW gods are willing.

That issue was known back in April. All bikes sold after then were supposed to have had the fix performed before they got into customer hands. Your dealer is evidently lax.

The float was replaced today at Cliff's BMW, and the guageseems to work fine now. They said that the original fix was to bend the float somehow before releasing the bike, but that didn't work in my case. Anyway, they've had to replace four or five so far.
