HI all,
Can anyone tell me how accurate the fuel warning lamp and count down of miles remaining is on my 05gs. My own guess is not very, but if anyone knows I would appreciate it.
Cheers Glenn.

accurate enough i d say.... Had run mine down to 3 miles showing a few times...

Thanks

For that I will let it get a bit lower yet then, still showing 43 miles thats loads. No honestly I will fill it up but it is nice to know roughly how accurate the gauge is.:thumb2
Cheers Glenn.

I've ridden 20 miles past empty but I'm sure others on here have had the reverse, i.e. ran out with it still showing miles left...
If you're going to run to the limit then maybe take a can of fuel...and let it start to splutter and see what it shows on YOUR gauge...

I've run mine 20 miles past the empty too at it was still happily running ....... as Rodders said run it out but tale a spare can of fuel with you

Well, I haven't ridden YOUR GS, so can't say for certain :augie...

BUT, MY 05 GS' fool guage is very accurate. I have stopped to fill up when I had 9 miles showing, and I put 19 litres in. I get 40ish mpg, so that's about right (as it's a 20 litre tank).

As suggested above, strap a can on the back and take a long ride. I did this with my ZZR600, as I didn't know how far I could get on reserve (44 miles).

+1 on strapping a gallon tank on the back and get out there and ride till epmtu then you will know, I have doen this a few times with different bikes, as its nice to know, especially when in a place you are not sure about knowing wjere the pumps are

spike

depends if it is working properly or not. Some have it saying there are still miles left and they run out. Others have the reverse and have more fuel than it says. Mine can do either or so I don't use it anymore and rely on the trip meter instead.

Crap!..............i've run out of fuel with the computer telling me i still have 34 miles left:blast.........................seriously not funny when in the middle of France!

13 litres to fill up - is this normal ?

The last couple of times i've filled up when the fuel light comes on I only get approx 13litres of fuel in - i've read in the book and it states useable fuel 20 litres, once i've filled up the range on the puter says 170 miles max all of the time. Not sure if this has ben happening since i bought the bike from new 2 months ago - i only noticed when i saw a post saying it cost somebody 40squid to fill up.

if i'm talking ollicks and this is normal - sorry.

Got mine ('08 GS) down 6 miles showing and then put 19L in - this was with bike on stand and right up to the tanks brim - I would say it must be quite accurate as the remaining 1L would only get you @12 miles.

I still tend to fill up in plenty of time and when touring use the trip meter as I find that far less prone to electrical gremlins and I know the bike will always do at least 200 miles.

Got mine down to 2 miles (read out) for about 10 miles before it started spluttering........tried it to see.

They do say not to let them run out as it can screw up the CAT.

Thanks to all

Thanks for the help everyone. I am impressed someone gets 200 miles to the tank, is this normal? My Blackbird had a 23 litre tank and I never got anywhere near that. So guess the GS is better on fuel. Mine was showing over 170 miles on trip when light and flashing thing came on. it was saying 43 miles left so that would take me over 200 miles as well. Impressive huh. Asking stuff on here is much more fun than reading the manual. Once again thanks for help.
Cheers Glenn.:clap:clap

Probably depends how fast you go, My ZZR14 did around 42-45mpg at whatever speed I travelled, the GS seems to be amazingly economical at 70mph, probably closer to 60mpg if I stayed at that speed for an extended period, but at a more normal 85 drops down to around 50mpg - still pretty good IMHO.

Probably need to be spanking along to drop below 45mpg = @10miles/L which would give you 200 miles on the 20L tank.

I ran out twice on my 2009 GS, once at 17mi and the second time a few weeks later at 16mi. I've heard others say they wouldn't trust any GS/GSA < 20mi. I've since sold that bike and bought a 2010 GS, will need to experiment again.

Lesson learned, though, bloody heavy to push down the road. :censor:
