Fuel guage and orange light

Picked up my new GS yesterday. Today the fuel guage went to one bar and then no bars but no orange light came on. When is the light meant to come on or does it wait until the bars disappear for a while. All help appreciated, Ricky

I think it varies. All my bars usually disappear, and then the light comes on soon after.
