Fuel Guage not reading correctly?? Help

Is this a common problem on GSA 1200 my bike said it had 84 miles range but it was empty? What is it and where is the part located?

Yes its a known problem, there are hundreds of posts about it if you care to search. Location is left hand side top of tank after the tank cover is removed. If you look from the front under you can see a big round cap, its under there. Some say you need to get it fitted and calibrated by a dealer and some say you can just fit it and it will be ok. Pays your money and takes your choice really. Other choice as many do including me is just ignore it and use your trip meter.

In hursts yesterday for brake line recall told guy fuel gauge only uses top 3 blocks off the gauge,he came back an hour later with a new fuel gauge strip in his hand told me mine was knackered, but because the tank was off they would fit the new one labour free with 10% discount.£100.00 sorted.
