Fuel leak !!

My point was unless you were trying to shag the QD joint using vaseline it wouldn't really be a problem. I doubt the o ring is made of latex ...
However just gobbing in it is probably just as good a temp lube ...

Just taken the cover off, started the bike, and traced the source of the leak ... what leak !!

I ran the bike for around 10 minutes and no sign of fuel - yet friday it was pissing out like no tomorrow!!

Any ideas?

Thanks

If them O rings can withstand petrol oi reckons they can withstand petrolium jelly ;)

Good point, I stand corrected.

Of course, you could always just line the connectors up straight in the first place :beerjug:

Ah, yes...

I've been through this all before.

As I mentioned, I changed all the fuel line (the old stuff was a bit crumbly round the edges so I was SURE this was the problem). It seemed fine for a couple of days and then, as the tank was running low it was pouring all over my foot.

I had only managed to get some cheap fuel line (it was a Sunday and I needed the bike for work) so I replaced the whole lot with some decent fuel line, and replaced all the fuel clamps with some new ones and also changed the 'o' ring where the tank internals join the tank.

Tested OK, and filled the tank and ran for a couple of days absolutely fine and then... fuel all over the foot again.

Got the bike back in the evening, took the tank off the bike with everything still connected to trace the fuel leak and.. leak? What leak? :spitfire

I left everything as it was and got up in the early hours of a cold morning, started the bike and hey presto - fuel everywhere!

The leak was from one of the fuel lines where it met the tank. I took this off and inspected the metal pipe for cracks or any damage and it looked absolutely fine. :nenau I had a couple of spare fuel clips so I doubled them up on the leaking pipe (also did the same on the other pipe while I had the tank off 'just in case'). This seemed to do the trick.

It's now been about a month and I've run a few tankfuls through and all seems to be OK.

On mine, it seemed to leak more when it was cold and the tank was nearly empty.

Don't know if that helps, but I hope so :thumb
