Hope this comes out all right, my first attempt !

My 1150 GS runs well, a little popping and banging, and it feels little lean, as most modern machines are.

It already has a Remus Can, Y piece and K&N filter. This probably makes it even more lean.

I would like to squeeze out a little more power, and improve lower end grunt, so I am looking at spending out for a mod to improve fuelling.

BMW south london reckon a Techlusion is the way to go, but that will need a dyno to set up. The BB Power chip seems a better option, as this is fixed, and the number 3 map it contains seems like the perfect fit for the set up of the bike.

I have 'chipped' the last three cars and it has significantly improved all of them, so I am leaning towrds the BBPower chip.

What thoughts on this out there in the ether ?

(I live around the Esher area, junction 10 of the M25, the intersection of the A3, anyone know a (decent) shop that has a dyno around here ?

I had a similar set-up on my 1150 at one point, and the Techlusion was my choice. This was based on the adjustability of the unit so that (for example), if you decide to go back to a standard can, you can 'fine tune' the unit to suit. A set-up like yours with a Techlusion turns the bike into a torque-monster, although all of my set-up was done via 'seat-of-the-pants' and was never anywhere near a dyno.

BB Chip

Fitted a BB chip and Ypiece to my 1150 ADV and was really happy with the results, only takes about 40 mins too. If you search the forum for BB power chip you should find the thread.

me too, but takes longer & still pops & bangs.

goes alright though.

I had mine fitted with a Superchip (Superchip's brand rather than BB) & the results were very impressive. However, I recently had a Powercommander fitted by Dynojet, for evaluation, & the results of this were another step up. See the full write-up & before/after dyno's HERE

A Powercommander's not cheap, but it's much more tuneable than a Techlusion & is also self-mapping because of the replacement lambda probe which comes as part of the package. You can set the fuel/air ratio you want & the Powercommander will take care of it.....lean it off for touring use or richen it up for more performance (guess which way I've got mine set up.... ) According to the dyno, I've got 1200GS performance figures for a lot less than the cost of trading up, so I think it was pretty cost-effective when you look at it like that.

HTH,

I was very tempted to buy a Power Commander until I saw the price  HTF can they justify charging more than £100 over the price of any other unit that they sell????? :spitfire

I think that if I do go down this route, then it will be a Techlusion unit for me :thumb

None of the other units they sell come with the wideband lambda sensor as part of the kit & the associated additional mapping needs. It's a much more sophisticated piece of kit than any of the others they make.

But they still deny doing a Power Commander for an 1150

Who are "they"?

Call Martin Winstanley at Dynojet UK on 01995 600680. He's at Dynojets HQ & fitted/set up my P/c. He's done a really thorough job because they used my bike as a testbed & so spent some time making adjustments & trying different settings & dyno-ing it each time. They needed to get to grips with the more technical aspects of the new BM versions, compared to the other P/c's they do. The telling point has been the difference in power on a 40% throttle..... an increase of over 10% which makes an nice difference in overtakes & roll-on acceleration.

(LOL....just noticed where you're located.... sorry :P )

YMMV,

To all that responded. thanks for the feedback.

I will probably go for the BB Power, mainly as it's a 'fixed map' solution (well, set of maps actually. . . ), i.e. no twiddling required, so given that my limited spannering skills are reserved for my old Sunbeam S7, the BBpower seems like the best bet for me.

I will have to see whether the lambda probe is supposed to be disconected (see the discussion on the link from Pigglet above) when I get the chip.

I spoke to a guy at Motorworks who sell the Chip (01484 353600) - nothing to do with me, got them off the web - who said he had one fitted to his 1150 GS, and I can ask him more about it. I will add to this post when I figure out what is correct, if I can get a definitive answer, that is !

Now, if anyone knows of a bike shop with a Dyno near me, I'll happily get some before and after graphs for the forum.

I am near Junction 10 of the M25, the A3 junction, (KT11 2), Guildford, Kingston, London at a push. . . anyone know of a decent shop ?

Wanna buy a Superchip......? (One careful owner with proven results.)

Update

Failed to find anyone with a dyno locally who had any experience of BMWs, let alone a 1150 GS, but was recommended by a friend a place at Silverstone (Performance parts - 01327 8585212 ) who know the 1150 GS well.

They favour the Techlusion kit, and have fitted lots of them, so next Friday (19 May) I am taking the bike up there, and having one fitted and set up.

I'll have the bike Dyno'd before and after, and post the results.

Pete Grieves.

I've just fitted a techlusion - piece of wee wee.

4 pots to set up - 3 leds to tell whats happening.

make the leads long enough to put the unit up by the clocks - then you can see when the leds are switching on/off as you ride.

carry at little screwdriver around and tweak the pots at the stop lights.

seat of the pants dyno :thumb
