Fuel pump controller......again!

The Quantum pump draws 8 amps at 13.5 volts hence I suggested 10 Amp minimum fuse.
The only reason I did not use the Quantum pump is that I once had a fuel pressure regulator from them which was slightly oversize to the point that I thought it was going to crack the plastic housing when fitting. I did not get any help from them.
The pump from motorworks that I now use came in a Continental box as OEM and the Motorworks part number is FUA84025 .
The price is higher than I remembered at £84.50.
I'm really grateful for all the replies. I've been pretty heartbroken as it happened the second day of ownership. I bypassed the relay and have done 100miles. It rides absolutely perfectly.
It seems you have been through all the major fuel related issues and are a bit of a guru on the subject. I like the idea of a gauge to monitor the pressure do you have any write ups on how to go about this?

Interesting! So last year I bought a couple of spares from Motorworks just before my Poland trip, one of which was a fuel pump Motorworks part number: FAU84026 at a cost of £51.76. This as a spare for a 2012 GSA twin cam, so after reading the above am I right in thinking I’ve actually bought the wrong pump with the wrong pressure rating?
 
The Pump outputs are all about the same it is the Fuel pressure regulator in the injector line that governs the pressure.
The fuel that exceeds the set pressure of the mechanical fuel pressure regulator is returned to the tank or in the case of the GSA via the jet pump to transfer fuel from the low ( right) side of the tank to the left.

I put a list of parts on here for the fuel pressure gauge somewhere. I will have a look when I get a minute.
 
Yes still have my 2012 R1200GS TC Just coming up to 105K miles so nearly run in.
Sounds good. So the fuel system dramas haven't put you off then. Did you do any other modifications? I'm interested in the external high pressure mahl filter conversion.
So do you just run your pump without the fuel pump controller module?

Any other things I need to watch out for?

I have done the external Filter conversion.
I would strongly advise against running the fuel pump without a fuel pump controller except as a "get you home option".
I have done many modifications to the bike to make it as near perfect for my needs as I can, I have tried the newer versions but prefer this one.

Do you have any pictures of your pressure gauge setup you can share here please

The photo of the gauges are different I used to run a 4 bar gauge and now a 6 bar gauge as I had a problem with ebay pumps generating too much pressure and thought it better to run a gauge at just over 50%.

Excellent thanks. I suppose you could do away with the extra pipe and just put the gauge on the T on the tank.
 
It is already using a float its a 2012 bike, I have converted a friends 2008 GSA from strip to float many years ago.
 
Is it particularly difficult? I hear you loose the obc functions unless you repin the connectors.
Do you have any experience with this?
 
Fitting a float does require repining and using moto scan ultimate & OBDlink .
I am told there are new reliable strips available as well as the converters which are an easier option.
It was many years ago that we did the conversion using a 0 to 100 ohm kit car float, so things have moved on a lot since then.
Someone with more up t date experience will be along. :) (y)
 
where you're locating the float matters

early small tank bikes - I'd not bother and buy the upgraded strip from the Argentinian guys - its more accurate and <1/3rd of the effort to fit
there was a crossover but when why is not very clear - late small tank bikes have the float mounted off the fuel filler to try and get a sensible reading
on the GSA it sits on the pump and the bike has logic to ignore the reading if the side stand is down

I converted my (early) 2010 R1200GSA from fuel strip to float a year ago. I am very satisfied with the result. The fuel gauge is as accurate as you could ask for. The yellow warning for low level lights up when I have about 6 l left in the tank, which is perfect. The important thing is to adjust the height of the float correctly. If you just follow the instructions in this thread, everything is very simple.
