I have heard that the ring antenna and the fuel pump controller can fail on BMWs - Am I right in thinking that the FPC issue is only on 1200GS's and that the ring antenna issue was dealt with successfully? (apparently my F650GS was manufactured after this issue (14/11/08))

Just wondering if I should be carrying spares/bypass cable.

Thanks!

FPC issue seems to only affect R1200GS and some R1200RT bikes.

Ring antenna issue is rare on F650/800GS, though I had a problem on my 09 F650GS twin when it hadn't even got 600 miles on the clock.

Wouldn't advise carrying spares though.

Hi Goo,
The fuel pump relay failed on my 800. 3years 4 months old 11000 miles. £120 approx.
Ring antenna was changed much earlier under warranty.

This is an interesting one... I've not heard of many going on the 800. I've been pondering myself whether or not to carry a spare ring antenna and FPR bypass cable? We'll see how this thread develops.

Broken down - suspect fuel pump?

My bike is back in my garage tonight having been ferried home on a recovery van.

I suspect the fuel pump as it is cutting out completely and randomly and something under the false tank is making a horrible buzzing noise when the ignition is switched off.

Luckily I have BMW extended warranty so lets see what happens when the dealer can pick it up and assess it. :nenau

Fuel pump controller replaced by BMW call-out technician at my home. 10 min job.
All up and running again.

Technician did say that the replacement is a revised unit - due to known problems. Apparently the old units are silver and the new units are black. :thumb2
