Please excuse the lack of techinal terminolgy, as you will gather I am no mechanic.

We are currently in Kathmandu having travelled from the UK making our way to New Zealand. The bike (2001) 1150GS is now sat in customs awaiting shipment to Bangkok.

A few days ago I noticed that I could still hear the fuel pump wirring away (technical term) when the bike was at idle after it had been run. I cannot recall this being the case before. The bike seems to be running fine, although recently it sometimes stalls at idle and needs choke to re-start.

We are going to try and get the bike looked at in Bangkok but any help that you could provide would be gratefully recieved.

Dont know if it makes any difference but the cat has been removed and replaced with a Y piece and up until now there have been no problems.

My 1150 has been doing that for about 15,000 miles now (since 1st noticed). Made me nervous at 1st so took it all apart at a service but no probs so still running the same pump & still going strong.

You should be (just) able to hear the fuel pump running all the time that the bike is. The only time that it should stop is when the engine is not running.

Hope that helps and best of luck with the trip.

Fuel Pump

Is the fuel pump is not working, neither the engine is. Regarding the noise, probably is a noisy bearing. Mine has done the same since new more or less ans that's 45K ago.

So don't worry too much and enjoy the trip....
