Just had it running! For the first time in too long it’s actually idling and running smoothly.
I’m not sure there was a single defining moment that resolved the issue in the end… FWIW, I’m fairly sure the underlying issue was a gummed-up fuel system somewhere between the pump output and the throttle bodies. Obvious in hindsight but the sudden one-day-it-runs-one-day-it-doesn’t threw me off that conclusion to begin with.
After testing the injector spray in the posts above, it was really only running on the left cylinder… putting a can of injector cleaner additive into about 2l of fresh fuel, running it through, letting it sit, running it through, letting it sit a few times has finally got it going. Now for 5l of 98 Unleaded to dilute down the additive/fuel mix and make sure I run it dry next time it will sit for a while!
While it was in bits I’ve taken the opportunity to replace the fork seals and oil and both were weeping - one was an absolute sh*t-show and had obviously rusted from water ingress. Oil was black and the fork seal wouldn’t come out without heating the top of the tube up to release it. Final drive will get new oil and grease as well. I’ll be very happy if the old girl gives me a few more miles!
Thanks
