Not wishing to hjack 47steve's post about the darn things, and to save me trawling thru other numerous posts about them, did I read something recently on here about guys buying and fitting the strips themselves ??
Has anyone got a link at all please ???

(Ive just had my fifth one fitted on my 58 plate 1200 at the local dealer. BMW wouldnt pay for this one as theres no "warranty on a warranty" and the bike is "old". I did argue the fact that the bike may be "old" but the new part fitted isnt !!!. One of the strips "went" when I opened the filler cap to pour petrol in from a fuel can. I guess weve all got similar stories)

If the new strip gives up, I may look to a diy job as it seems the part is available to purchase these days. ???!!!!

Difficult one, each genuine BMW part comes with a two year warranty, if it fails the

dealer will asess the part to see if it is a warranty failure ( ie not mis-fitted / use etc)

As the dealer has fitted the part in this case the mis fitting part dosent apply.

The are trying to use the original warranty length as the overall time for a claim, whereas

your claim is against the warranty applied to the "new" part.

A better course of action may be to claim under SOGA ..

If you have the timeline of when each part failed, coupled with mileage etc, you may be in

a better position.

So at a rough guess each part is failing just short of the two year warranty ..

Ok first one is unfortunate, Second one disappointing, Third one would be raising

questions as to part capability. By the fourth, i would be parking the bike across the

dealers main entrance, and calling the papers lol

Yep, fuel strip should be under warranty, I thought it was actually two years on them? I just had my third one replaced recently, by an independent who dealt with BMW on my behalf, got a replacement and fitted it FOC.

It is 2 years on the original part not all the parts. If you buy part A and within 2 years it fails then you get parts B and C under warranty. As soon as the 2 years is up on part A though D is going to cost you money even if C is only 6 months old. You didn't buy C so it has no warranty. Make sense?

Anyway yes you can fit them yourself although most say they need calibrated with a gs911 some say they don't though.

Personally I wouldn't bother and didn't when I had mine. It's a waste of time, money and effort for something that will fail again.

Personal choice and all that though.

Just had my 4th (or is it 5th?) fitted to my 2010 RT which has the BMW extended warranty.

Not holding my breath! :D
