Has anyone on here ever fitted a GSA fuel tank to a GS? If yes then how difficult was it and what parts are needed apart from tank and pumps?

The GDA beak snd sub frame are different and maybe the steering brace. There are two horizontal lugs to carry the back of the tank. I don't know if they are same as vanilla GS.

Yes it can be done. But sorry, not much advice. A couple of customers have 1200 GS's with ADV tanks. But not sure what they needed, i'll ask when i next see them.

Just make sue you get the parts from the same age of bike as the tank centre panel changed in 2007/2008
Are you sure? I was under the impression that only the GS panels changed. GSA upper and side panels stayed the same shape from 2006 to 2013.
nope centre panel is different, hole for filler is smaller on later tank cover and the tank centre mount and tank to beak mounts are totally different
It's easy to do on the1150 GS.

I have fitted as GSA tank to my 2010 GS. You need tank, pump sucky pump, fuel distributor, tank cover, tank side panels, tank embelishers, GSA fuel sender(Later ones are float type not strip and only have 2 wires giong through the pump housing), side panels, and rear tank brackets and metal spacers (To mount side panels). Make sure you get the right tank as they changed around 2007 and pumps are specific to the tanks.

I am in a process of exchanging the tank of my 2012 GS Rallye Edition bike with GSA one. I bought a brand new (0 km) 2013 GSA tank on eBay, which came with the original built-in pumps and insides.
I've read the many posts on the subject (including Dale Brown's guide) but sadly there is a scarce info concerning newer models. And I have to say when it comes to tank retrofit there is little in common between 2006 and 2012 models. I actually finished the mechanical part without particular problems and it seems to work.
There are several fellow bikers though who share their issues with the poor fuel transfer from the right lobe to left lobe of the tank.
Did you had such problem? Did you reprogram your bike's computer for the new tank? And finally, what about the gauge reading? Any info on that matter would be appreciated.

What about the front shock? GSA have a different one due to heavier fuel tank?

Isn't the different shock required due (at least in part) to longer travel on the suspension, rather than (or at least, as well as) more weight?

I was wondering the same Shocks forks and suspensions front and rear, do they need updating ? to compensate the extra weight ?

Don't have a working fuel guage at mo but no issue just use the second trip. When I fill up at 300 ish miles there is always about 4-5 litres left in tank. No issues with fuel pickup from other side as yet, was planning to take a jerry can and run dry but not got round to it yet. No noticeable difference in handling or ride height from full to empty so I don't see any need to change the shock, don't forget we're ony talking 13 litres of fuel difference I think we have many riders on here stones apart in weight but no one changes the shocks on that account (By the way I'm a rather rotund 16 stone so prob one of the heavier ones). I have not reprogrammed the bike for the new tank but intend to look when I get the plug in diagnostics later this year but no running faults as yet. Did you get the later style float type tank sender ? this only appears to use 2 wires. I think this was what upset my guage as plugged in a strip type which uses 4

You can't convert the bike between strip and float sender. They are different types of senders and read in a different way so no retrofitting early bikes with floats and vice versa. There was a rumour that BMW were working on a retrofit to float to sort the crappy strip senders but nothing was ever heard and I doubt they will do it now.
The software is different and can only be downloaded to a bike with the frame number that's fitted with a float. So effectively the Sept 2010 models onwards.
It's easy to do on the1150 GS.

Interested to read about reprogramming the bike for the Adventure Tank. I have fitted a tank and relevant fittings to my 05 GS12 and, like you, have no reliable fuel gauge. Sometimes it reads something but often nothing. If it reads something, it goes from say 100 miles to nothing in half a mile. As I have just got a GS911 what can be done to improve the fuel gauge?
