Fuel tank converstion

Hi Haggler

Interested to read about reprogramming the bike for the Adventure Tank. I have fitted a tank and relevant fittings to my 05 GS12 and, like you, have no reliable fuel gauge. Sometimes it reads something but often nothing. If it reads something, it goes from say 100 miles to nothing in half a mile. As I have just got a GS911 what can be done to improve the fuel gauge?

Bob

If your switching between sender types you can't do anything.

If your bike should have a strip sensor and that's what you fitted the GS911 has a calibration function on it. This might work for you but then again you could equally have a duff strip.

Hi bob couldn't say on your model as mine is a 2010 hex head twin cam . As far as i know yours should have the strip type sender

I'm in the process of starting this conversion. Can anyone tell me which one of these 2 fuel lines is the return so I can connect it to the right side of the GSA tank. Many thanks .uploadfromtaptalk1399839319228.jpg

Can't tell you off hand but on the tank flow is the left (sitting on bike) so maybe left pipe is flow. If nobody else gets back I will tell you in the morning as I have the tank off mine just now.

Sorry for the delay

I am not going to be any use to you as my lines (proper GSA) completely different to yours. The return for the right hand side is fiscally routed and clipped round the bike so there is no way you could mix them up. Looking at your I can't actually see how you can reach the return on the tank with any of them.

Only thing I can add is on the other end the lines are connected to a cylindrical thing which is the regulator. On mine the flow goes onto the side (round) bit and the return is connected on the flat end.

Thanks for the reply. I have the standard GS so will be extending whichever one needs to go to the rights side of a GSA Tank. I just have no idea which one.

Try looking at the regulator then.

There are very often arrows on the ends as well for flow and return.

If you take the pump unit out of the old tank you will see which is feed. If I remeber correctly the feed is the pipe to the left but I''l look at the standard pump unit tomorrow. Is yours the newer type with only one pump (2010) ?

Cheers! its a 2009. I will try and remove the old pump tomorrow. Many thanks.

I have removed the pump and made an educated guess on which line to cut and extend to the right lobe. Will it make any difference to the system if I get this the wrong way round? As all 3 lines seam to meet on the regulator cap. Any advice would be appreciated. Cheers.

Rats I forgot all about this will look at the pump tomorrow looking at the diagram in the Haynes manual the delivery hose connection is directly to thefuel pump cover and the returnhas its connector remotely positioned above the cover.

hope this helps

Yes it will matter. If you get them round the wrong way it won't work. Basically the regulator will be connected the wrong way round.
