Full Akro Twin Cam anyone done it?

Twin cam is pretty fruity as is, I'm on the look out for some twin cam headers, decat them and then get it remapped.

Go for it though and post back the results :)

Done the can only as I like the style - not sure if headers make a difference on the twin cam and not many seem to have done it yet - if youre looking for a performance gain the remap seems to be the way to go :D

Nearly done it !!!
Remus headers, Akro can, remove little flappy valve thing ( it will only sieze anyway ) replace with a stainless link pipe and then remap by Geoff at Hilltop.

Job done, love it.:thumb2

Gedjack what did that cost you in total if you don't mind me asking?

Full akro system on 30yr anniversary twin cam, K&N, power commander, rolling road set up by Dynojet. It's the 'twin cam' system so keeps the exhaust flap.

Previous bike was an '06 1200GS with a full BOS system (which made a huge difference). Wasn't going to change the twin cam set up as it is so much smoother / fruitier anyway...

...until I went on a trip with a guy with the full akra system on his twin cam. Booked it up within a week of getting back.

Can't lay my hands on the dyno sheet at the moment, but from memory 4 or 5 bhp at the top and rather more in the middle.

But it's so so smooth. And keeping the exhaust flap means that you can take the bung out of the end can - nice and sensible when you want it to be, lovely gougeous when you are in the mood (standing outside the rolling road listening to it being wound right up was very impressive - completely different sound to the earlier engine).

Not cheap, and lots will say it's ridiculous. But it's not their bike, it's mine and I wouldn't have it any other way - highly recomended!

A couple of thoughts - personally I wouldn't do a full system without adjusting the fueling and the power commander is IMO the best way of doing that (unless you happen to live very close to one of the well known people who can adjust the map by other means) so that will put the price up. Secondly, a pre twin cam system will fit if you are happy to do away with the exhaust flap (pros and cons there) but you are far more likely to find one of these second hand, which could bring the price down considerably.

Happy to meet up with anyone who lives South East-ish f:thumbor a cuppa and to help them see the light!

yeah done it

Yeah, done it. Full Titanium `race` akro.

Instant power (mid range is amazing), somewhat lighter, fantastic noise. Bloody expensive.

Assuming you are on the slippery slope and it's going to happen one day - the quicker you do it the more benefit you'll get, or to put it another way, if you put it off you are actually wasting money!:D

Either buy a system second hand (I have new headers, trickier to find used) and a second hand end can (which will probably be worth exactly what I paid for it when I come to sell it) or go all new and enjoy the prospect of recouping much of your investment when you sell it all on (if you go akrapovic).

You can even pick up a power commander second hand (you want the PC V specced for a GS so all the connections are right, don't think age of bike matters but talk to someone who knows) and then download the right map for the bike (which if its a twin cam will be the one that dynojet set up using my bike).

Fit the whole lot yourself, it's not difficult. The only thing to watch is that if you have a 30yr type bash plate it will foul one of the headers - hacksaw and clubhammer soon sort that.

Not so expensive now!:rob

Or, save all the agro and write a nice man a cheque to do it all for you.

Either way, as an advert once said 'you will remember the quality long after you have forgotten the price'.

I rest my case my lord:beer:

Cheers for that Howard , fitting the power commander looks quite a job , but I'm liking the Look of the Full Akro , got one on my T Max and its awesome !!

Fitting the power commander is actually quite straightforward once you've overcome the thought of it - literally just a matter of unplugging and plugging in a couple of cables. I have had a couple now direct from Dynojet, the instructions with it are pretty good and the guy at the end of the phone is incredibly helpful if you have any queries (I have no connection with them, but do appreciate good service).

There are a lot of threads on here about what is needed with air filters and exhaust systems and a lot of people have strong feelings about it. Personally I would never improve the breathing of an engine significantly without giving it the ability to add more fuel.

At the very best you won't be getting the best out of whatever you have just done. At worst the engine will run lean which equals excessive heat and potential engine damage.

Am sure someone will be along to disagree shortly, so long as they are not in charge of looking after my bike that's fine.:hide

Open the throttle more, for longer, use the brakes less.

Cost: £0.
